If Kimber is a step up, I advise you not to step down.
Plenty of them out there with no problems.
Can a steel slide on an aluminum frame ever be a good thing?
Durability wise, not exactly. Steel on steel (not the same alloy) is the "tried and true" method. However, aluminum is nice for weight saving and ease of manufacturing. This is a "lightweight carry" option for a 1911 at a decent cost. It won't last for a century of abuse but not many guns do at all. There is a lot of discussion online about this topic.
“”ShootFirst”. If I am not mistaken they are special, Sold to master dealers so you won’t find on their site. My opinion, Good Deal, VG piece and VG seller.
Only issues on my lw were 2 the grips screws were cross threaded, I had to remove them and clean up the threads...but after that everything is good...I hope kimber continues with these and makes a commander in 9mm
Good Gun-Good price- Good Seller.
Cant find this on Kimbers sight. Looks sharp i might be in for one but want to know a little more before i drop 6 bills on it.
I’ve had mine out at the range now. Runs great. Purchased a 2nd Kimber mag from Magwarehouse, as it only came with one magazine. The black frame ones seem to come with the Kimber mag with a closed follower. The stainless ones don’t, so I swapped out the Chip McCormick open follower mag with a similar Kimber. I’m definitely a fan.
Snagged it. Looks like the LW series is similar to the Ultra Pro Carry - aluminum frame and steel slide. Good basic options. Nice and tight.
You have an IG or something so we can see some pics?
Nope for pictures. I don’t do social media aside from GunDeals and LinkedIn. It looks just like the picture, but better in-person. The black frame and slide with the dark grip looks great. I added a dark brown leather holster, and she’s a looker. Personally, I like this one better than the all-black variant. I also picked up the Arctic.
Make sure to only use enclosed followers on alloy framed 1911's. Mec gar, and Wilson Combat both offer mags with encolsed follower. If money is an issue you gotta have at least one wilson combat mag to use as your carry mag all the others can be mec gar. They're pricey but whats your life worth.
Appreciate the heads-up, Sir! I'll look into it.
Picked one up and the fit/finish are great. Lots of talk about the wear of a steel slide on an aluminum frame, but have yet to see any proof of problems. You also apparently shouldn't use metal follower mags on aluminum frame 1911s but I only buy Wilson Combat 47d and they have polymer followers so it's a non-issue for me, though again I've not seen any actual proof of it being a problem. At the end of the day it's not a $2000 1911, but it's a step up from an RIA or Taurus(which aren't terrible guns).
