My buddy purchased one. Let's just say he is far from happy.

Israel must have adopted these early on, as these have wood furniture. Wish I knew an Israeli, is there a firearm they haven't licensed, copied, redesigned, designed. Plus thier gov't M.I.C. (Military Industrial Complex) wastes as much as the U. S. Really wish our military would have adopted the Belgium ORIGINAL design.

So, avoiding all the political commentary- what else is required to make a basic shooter, if you want to get into the FAL game? Barrel, receiver, correct mag? Is this something that the average person can do at home, or do you need a gunsmith/special tools?

Not unless you are an enthusiast and/or really want to do it. It is equipment heavy.
1) FAL barrels are threaded so you need a barrel vise and action wrench. Not all receivers are made equal and some of the receiver threads have poor QC and won't time the barrel correctly. DSA isn't a safe bet either. They have good receivers and bad batches as well
2) You will need a vise, a hammer and some monkeying, or a hydraulic press to press in the locking shoulder (determines the headspace)
3) Headspace gauges to confirm correct barrel headspace
4) Wrench to install gas regulator
5) punches and hammers to install charging handle.

Check Sarco.
If anyone has stuff for them, it's Sarco....probably manuals, gunsmith tools, kits, everything.

I’d like to know as well. Hopefully from someone that has experience, not just an opinion...

Sorry, your palewood nonsense doesn't work on people with more than one brain cell.

I would actually pay *more* for one if I knew it was connected to the death of a fakestinian terrorist.

I was over there for longer than I'm comfortable admitting.
From my pretty realistic view, there are very few innocents on either side of that shit storm.
The only thing that I came across there that I actually liked? Schwarma.

Man you nailed it bro. Schwarma is wonderful. Used to have a shop here like the Seinfeld soup nazi that served the best schwarma and fries around but you had to mind your behavior. Judging by the picture above register of the guy holding 2 monster revolvers I don’t think they ever got robbed.

Ahh the good old days. Oddly the “family” was from Brazil but who knows

Anyone know where to get receivers or barrels besides from DSArms?

I picked up a receiver from Coonan Inc. Great company and a nice receiver. I purchased my kit about 10 years ago and it came with a barrel, so I am not familiar with where to find barrels. The FAL Files is a good forum with information on the FAL and vendors.
