Description

Howard Leight R-02522 Impact Sport Color Series Sound Amplification Earmuff, One Size, Adjustable, Purple - Protect yourself against hazardous gunfire noise without being left in silence. For hearing protection, the Impact Sport actively listens and automatically shuts off amplification whenever harmful sound levels are reached. The earmuff effectively blocks any noise, continuous or impulse, 82 dB or higher. To enhance low-level sound, the Impact Sport employs built-in microphones that amplify range commands and other ambient sounds. Users enjoy full, clear directional sound in stereo.

I bought another set as well. My wife wanted a purple set last time but they were $15 more.

The Walker's Razor are much better as far as fit. The speakers on the HL seem a touch better for sound.

NR22 ....barely acceptable...thats the compromise of being low profile.

A 165db shot ends up being 143 to the ear.
Not ideal for large caliber.
Better suited for 22LR and subsonic 9mm.

One should never wear earmuffs on their own, no matter how high quality. Always double up.

I have 4 of these in different colors and I do double-up with plugs. I can still hear people talk if I max out the volume. I am just too paranoid with electronics failing on me.

Are you f'n high? I have two sets of these earmuffs. Just to see if you were right, I put in a basic set of earplugs. Then tried to use my earmuffs over them. They do blank out almost all sound. But you can't hear the amplified earmuffs!! Which does make them pointless. Just get a $6-$10 set without the amplification if this is your plan. Quit spreading bad info like you can use the sound amplification muffs with earplugs installed and still hear what others are saying around you. Doesn't work.

If one set of hearing protection is not working for you, I suggest you find a hobby that won't damage your ears more than it has. I am over 70 and have excellent hearing. I have never used two sets of ear protection at the same time. Perhaps you are using cheaply made protection or are not following the directions correctly.

then it would be pointless to buy this type of earmuff.

Doubling up provides additional noise reduction and, more importantly, the sound amplification lets you hear talking you wouldn't hear with just the plugs.

Using earplugs would not allow you to hear anything from the speaker on this unit, making them pointless (like the previous poster said).
