I have been using an AWS brand (same as this without the Hornady name) for 4 years now and it works great. It is dead on with my RCBS balance scale within .1 grain every time.

I thought I just got lucky, but then I broke the first one (spilled water on it). Bought a second one and it also works just as well.

Maybe I got lucky twice? They work great for me and read within .1 GRAINS

That scale only has a 0.1g accuracy rating, which is about 1.5 grains. I wouldn't feel comfortable with my loads being up to 1.5 grains off of what I wanted them to be.

I love Hornady but this scale is absolute junk. Read reviews elsewhere if you dont believe me. Dont leave batteries in it. Even if off, they will be drained in a day. waste of money.

Is there a better alternative for under $50 or $60? What model would you buy for that budget?

Have not seen a good digital one for that cheap. Save for chargemaster.

I bought a jeweler scale on eBay for a few $ and it meters within 0.1 grains.

Do you still have a working link? A lot of them on ebay for less then 10$ but with spotty reviews.

Usual complaint with cheap scales are that they're not consistent.

I don't. I just bought a few of them for $3-8 each figuring it was worth a shot and cheap enough. I tested them against my lee beam scale and a couple worked ok, one worked really well and was very consistent. I use it as my main and keep one other as a backup.
