My whole issue with Hi Point pistols are purely cosmetic.
For the prices, they actually do work, and work quite well. They are super reliable, they eat any ammo, and they are within acceptable accuracy ranges.
But my issue is, for pistols that sell like hot cakes and have made hi point billions of dollars since the beginning, why wouldnt they step up and make cosmetic changes and upgrades to that god awful monsteroucity of a frame and slide? If these didnt look like some sort of unfinished after thought, they certainly would most likely sell 3-4 times what they sell now. Every single social media, video, chat rooms, articles and review hates on the looks alone. Its the most bitched about part of hi point. Why wouldnt the company take notice? Opinions?

Allegedly, they are coming out with a new model that modernizes things a bit. But, they are limited by what they can do with the slide, because these are blowback operated guns. They need a fat, heavy slide to operate safely. They could change the slide material from ZAMAK 3 to a denser metal, but that would drive up costs.

Years ago I was at a public range shooting next to a guy who just bought a new .380 Hi-Point. He was shooting randomly at the berm, no target. He then announced to the girl he was with that he was going to shoot a magazine without ear pro, because "you should do that to get used to the sound in case you have to use it for self defense". He squeezed off a round, put the gun down and picked up his ear pro. I guess he "got used to the sound" after just one round. These guns seem to attract these kinds of people.

New shooters or men raised without fathers or proper role models?
I would say you were right.

I am not being flippant with you, more or less adding an observation to your story.
Thanks for sharing your story.

Heh. Yeah, in this guy's case at least he was teachable. A truly stupid person would have kept on firing without ear pro.

I don't have anything against new shooters, or even Hi-Points...but to your point I learned from my father the right way at a very early age. All new shooters without the benefit we had should take a course or two.

You aren't wrong at all.
And to that, I have a binder full of notes and thoughts to pass onto my kids and eventually grand kids.
Sadly, I didn't have a father to teach me so had to go it solo. I have never had an issue saying the words, "I don't know" as its the first step to learning. And thusly learned and learned about guns (and may other things, gardening is harder than it looks btw) and while I choose to start into purchasing firearms with a mossberg 500, I dis choose to buy a hi point next, it wasn't long before I upgraded to a berreta and eventually a glock. Hi point is a good starter spot. I even still have them. I say them because when a friend in need asks for a loan I am glad to loan $75 on a hi-point. Only issue, they never want them back so don't payback the money. However in todays market, I guess those guns are some how worth $200?
Insane.
As a firearms community we fail at being welcoming. I fully expected you to blow up at my comment assuming I was being unfriendly.

*Anchor* I don't know who would shoot 1000+ rounds though one of these when the Bullets cost 3 times the worth of the Boat Anchor! I had one once ok for someone that just plain can't find or afford anything else, Since you can always use it to hold down a small house from a Tornado.

That very same gun shows up in later videos, too. Freaking hilarious. IIRC, it may even survive getting run over by a tank. Can't remember for sure, though.
