@ poster 'slickpuns' - Pretty sure bad guys don't care how pretty or ugly the .45 was that put that giant hole in them. ;)

The real problem with this pistol is it's so ugly you will want to conceal carry, it's so bulky you'll have to go in public with this monstrosity attached to your hip.

It's such a great gun to experiment with. I have one of these and have painted, hydro-dipped, stippled, polished, created my own trigger sear, modified the trigger, machined the slide, changed the mag release, and much more. This is a great gun to practice mods... gives an amateur great confidence on modifying their guns, and a platform to test ideas on before touching one of my other guns. Even without the mods this gun shoots almost everything you put through it (mine hates some of the metal jackets), but the zero is exceptional. And best of all: made in the USA.

hipoints are truck and boat guns. who give a €£¥₩ if you roll your kayak and loose a $150 pistol vs a $600 one?

@123
Please link the local dealer so I can get them to Ship me one. I'll buy 2 at $99 each and keep one in each car. Hell, might buy 3 and put one in the boat.

I agree with Reloads!!!!!!!!!! I own several firearms 22lr/ .45 acp 1911/ar 15/ 30-30 /and last but not least HI POINT but mine is chambered in 9mm! Yes it's heavy .Yes it dosent look great and Yes it was cheaper than most of 9mm's out there,BUT IT SHOOTS PERFECT AND AS OF ACCURACY I CAN HIT AN ARMY HELMET SITTING ON A 2×4 50-75 YARDS OUT ,ANOTHER YES I WAS SURPRISED BUT FOR WHAT I PAID FOR IT ITS DARN GOOD! TO KEEP IN MY STORAGE FOR ANY HOME EMERGENCY 100% RELIABLE. .... DON'T LIKE IT DONT BUY IT ITS THAT EASY ........ YES I WOULD ADMIT IT DOSENT CYCLE REAL GOOD WITH WINCHESTER ALUMINUM CASE'S (ALUMINUM ROUNDS 4 PRACTICE)BUT AS OF THE REST INCLUDING HP SHOOTS FINE....

ONLY IN AMERICA! TRUMP 4 PRESIDENT. ..

Before anyone wants to bash this lifetime warrantied product, made in the USA, and giving Americans jobs. Go read the pro's reviews on these, call the company and talk to the manager...
No, I don't own one... I also have never owned a Kimber either. Have I shot both, yes! Do I own a trusty crusty $100 .22 yup! I also own rifles that run well over the 4G build cost.. Not paying myself to do the work! I also own or have owned just about every other brand out there.. And have shot the rest.
So.... What can I say. 1. Pretty (no) 2. Lite weight (no) 3. Better than 99.9% of other companies warranties (yes) 4. Made in the USA (yes)
Often bashed by ignorant folks who can't provide a single business management opinion (oddly this business survived the economic crash) or a educated unbiased opinion on mechanical function.... (Yes!!)
I wonder how many of these negative opinions come from folks who own a gun that didn't need some form of tune up in its life?

Just food for thought folks... If you don't want one or like them, don't buy one. But posting ignorant words, translates into less cash in some poor guys paycheck who probably spent his whole life wanting to build guns!

If Harbor Freight sold guns, this would be branded as a 'Predator' or a US General'. Not bashing, just a cheap gun that people who are 'into' guns, like me would never buy. That goes for Taurus too. I hate that brand.

A person could do worse. I bought a new Hi Point.45 almost a year ago and with an extra mag, two boxes of ball and the FFL transfer I was in at $197. I just wanted to have a 45 ACP option without any investment. Everything I have otherwise in handgun is 9MM. Hell, I haven't even shot that damn gun yet, but I got me a .45 with ammo for $200 sitting in my safe in case I ever want to. No regrets in having one and no shame either since this gun has a reputation of going bang and it slings a big slug ahead of that bang at a bargain price.

Luckily I was able to unload mine almost immediately after purchase for $200 on Armslist to some schmuck

Like every other gun, they have their purpose. I had a .45 which I shot at the range once or twice. First shot ever was dead center of the target. I found it to be accurate and never had a problem with it. But it was a gun that did not see any range time after the first time or two.. I sold it a year later when I decided to go with all 9mm.

I would not use it as a carry gun, but is fine for home defense. I had no regrets about spending $175 for it, but I can't say I ever saw it as a go to gun either since I had other guns that fit all my needs. While it shot well, it was not one of those guns that I thought, "can't wait to shoot this one today at the range".

Best gun ever........No, not even close.

A gun I would feel comfortable with if I did not have others? Yes

Can it fill a role for some people........ Absolutely.

pretty sure i have seen these new for $99 plus tax locally... < granted im not far from the factory > i just dont think $150ish plus the transfer fee is a slick deal for anyone, even ppl who can only afford next to nothing.. pt111 g2 with a p226 mag hanging out the bottom is about $220 and definitely a step up.

Heavy, ugly, cheap, reliable...I would assume the AK fan boys would be in love with the High Point.

There are quite a few torture tests of Hi Points out there. Most seem to be pretty favorable. I would rather my loved ones use this to defend themselves now rather than having a Glock in Layaway that they get later. If you are on a budget...and remember, that includes being able to afford practice ammo, this is a pretty good choice.

Better to get a $150 gun now with $50 in ammo to practice with than having a $400 gun in layaway.

These are very boxy guns but are ultra dependable. I have owned a few and the only real drawback is lack of pin point accuracy. They are like fat girls. A lot of fun but u don't want your friends to see u with them.

This gun has more views and comments than anything listed on here recently and yet it is $150 dollars. What I don't understand yet is why people go out of the way to dog the brand as something undesirable. Makes no sense whatsoever. Value has little to do with price. Perhaps it is the market segment that we feel this firearm belongs to i.e. look at that ghetto blaster so when we ourselves say: "I'd never buy a pos like that!" were enhancing our own self esteem. Is your identity tied up in a certain gun or do you just see a gun as a tool like a hammer to get a job done?

this was the nail in the coffin for my respect for this website. this should make front page @ $50 not $150... i still dunno if i would buy it at $50, but it would be 'slick'. $150 is not 'slick'.

I have never fired one, own one, or plan to buy one. Ever. I only held one at a gun show recently. That said, I think it is funny that a lot of the comments on this post trash talk the brand so much. I wonder how many of those have actually fired one, and/or put it through the test(s).

The majority of Hi-Point owners that I have found, have nothing bad to say about their products, performance wise. Are their pistols a work of art? - Heck no. But, they do work.

I am glad that I have the means to own the firearms that I want. Some people are just not as fortunate. I know that if I was broke af, and I wanted to protect myself or my family, I'd have no problem looking at a HP.

Just my 2 cents.

I have plenty of nice guns but recently bought a hi point c9 just to see if all the negative comments were true. Yes they are a bit ugly and big but it still weighs less than my rock island tac 2 1911. I tried every thing I could at the range to make it jam up but it never did. All 150+ rounds went down range with out a single problem. So before you go talking trash on hi points spend $150 and try it for your self. Don't go by what your buddies friends uncle said about them. It's an American made budget friendly gun.

My brother swears by his 45 hi-point and can shoot it with decent accuracy. I am not comfortable shooting it, feels like the entire slide comes back over my arm when firing.

Does anyone clean their Hi-Point or just toss it and get a new one? Use this as a down payment on a G21, put it on layaway, save a dollar a day, BINGO!.....you got a better firearm. Or go to a paycheck advance loan office, borrow $550 at 120% interest and get the Glock today. It'll be yours after 36mos and you'll only be out $2500.

Not wanting to get into a pissing contest. Just saying this barely resembles or feels like (weight/balance) any other gun i have ever held or own from my 1860 Colt to my Gen 3 glocks, Rugers, 1911s, and dozen of others I own. I have more range time than most and put more rounds down range in a week than most put in a year. So, I am offering a single piece of advice.. this is definitely a gun you want to feel and see in person before you buy. Don't buy it based on the reviews here or pics online. The cheap price got me curious. Just glad I didnt waste the money. Not worth it to me.

I was curious about these. I got lucky and got to hold one at my local gun shop...
Cheapest, heaviest, bulkiest junk I ever held. Extremely front heavy. Huge aluminum slide. On the plus side, if you run out of bullets, you can use the gun to knock out the zombies.

P.S.... No, I won't be buying one of these. junk.

1 vote
3 votes

What's that? It's a piece of junk?? I see. That decision was based on how much range time with it? None huh? Gee, thanks. I'm overwhelmed by the depth of the criteria you've used to come to such a conclusion.

It's ALWAYS the haters that have never fired one, right? Hi-Points function--period.

They gotta express their hate because they can't admit something so inexpensive functions as well as the higher priced guns.

My experience has been the haters should buy one and try it. If they don't like it, these .45s go all day long on the used market for $175-$200.

IMO, sometimes on your first statement, agreed on the second. Sometimes on the third and fourth.

My comment has less to do with Hi-Point products and instead the fact someone calls something a piece of junk based on just handling one at a local shop. That's ignorant and it doesn't matter if it's a product by Hi-Point, Mossberg, CZ, whatever.

After reading that comment I was curious and went to Buds' website. If one reads the comments by Hi-Point pistol owners they are OVERWHELMINGLY positive with the vast majority being four-stars or better. Thats not a sign of junk. (And buds doesn't let you comment unless you've actually purchased the particular product.)

Decided to call you out on this and it's pretty incredible,......when you do the math way better than 90% of Hi-Point pistol reviews there are 4 or 5 stars. In many cases it's around 95%.

but they are balanced like a 69 buick and they weigh almost as much as 1! I've shot over 1000rnds in a single day thru a 9mm hi point and it worked flawlessly but I was tired and my forearm hurt for 2 days after...

0 votes
0 votes

Believe it or not a HP pistol in 9mm weighs the same as a Sig P229. I'd think there are lots of people who'd be sore/tired after shooting 1000 rounds out of the Sig in a day even if the Sig has better balance.

0 votes
0 votes

that's a normal sunday for me dude, but it weighs way more then my sig 220 in 45 n I shoot 1000rnds a day thru that or a 1911 regular, it might be cuz the hi-point is so poorly balanced and just feels that way tho

0 votes
0 votes

Per Sig's Spec their standard 220 weighs 1.4 ounces more than HP mentioned above, the C-9. (30.4 vs. 29) At 29oz it's also less than just about any standard 1911 out there.

my point is that the HP functioned, period, but it feels heavy and poorly balanced, to me, just to be clear I'm not haten on the HP they do work

I bought one of these 45's, and a HP 40 SW Carbine. Took the carbine to the range and it shot cheap ammo right out of the box without one FTF. This weekend it's the 45 and I expect the same. I also own a Mossberg Zombie 30-30 that looks like you can hit baseballs with. Point being........I used to have long hair in the 60's and 70's. Very low cost to maintain and it got me a ton of dates. Low cost, looked different, but it worked for me. I feel the same way about these guns :) After seeing what happened to collectible dolls and fishing tackle prices over the last 30 years, I have no faith in an expensive gun holding it's value.

Your lack of faith in expensive guns appreciating in value likely stems from spending your time grooming your long hair and checking the prices of collectible dolls. I would love to go back to the 70's and buy some Colt's, Smith's, Springfield's, Winchesters, Brownings, etc......

My friend bought one of these for real cheap used. It is an older style, looks a good bit different.

He keeps it in his truck. We shot it one day and it didn't miss a beat, and was surprisingly accurate.

Ugly as hell, big and clunky, low capacity for the size. But it works.
