What "use" is a gun like this??? Well, there is no reasonable mind that would consider a 3" .22LR/Mag SAA with no ejector rod a good gun to carry for self-defense. This is an inexpensive, purely fun gun that looks pretty sweet with the short barrel, scrollwork grips and simulated case coloring on the frame. I've already got the 4.75" version and a neat, tooled leather, western style holster to tote it around in when I want to play cowboy. This little Barkeep screams to be carried in a tiny crossdraw holster or simply tucked behind a belt buckle for a quick draw! You can call me the .22 Soda Pop Kid! But smile when you do.

I prefer a .22 MAG for a backup to a .38.As for reloading, revolvers are'nt that difficult to reload. My primary weapon,a Gen 1 Glock 17 has sufficient capacity for self defense.A "backup",is just that.If I have'nt dispatched the threat with a couple of mags from my Glock then the revolver would come into play.

To each his own. A relatively bulky and heavy single action rimfire revolver without a built in ejector rod strikes me as an odd choice for carry, backup or not. If you insist 22 mag, there's an LCR for that that's lighter than the Heritage gun, double action, and easier to reload.

Who stated anything about "carry"?

.22 MAG would make a decent little backup piece

No, it wouldn't. It'd be better than nothing, but hardly decent. Decent would be a Ruger LCR in 38 Special. A single action in 22 mag that can't be easily reloaded is a poor choice for self defense.

You can also run this with the .22 magnum cylinder if you wanna kick it up a notch.

It's cute and all, but what is it good for?

I'd like one to teach my kid to how handle a handgun. I hope these still exist when he's old enough.

Then buy the regular version, not this one. This one is not good for target shooting, competiton, carry, or training. It looks kind of neat but that's about it.

Plinking, fun

I'd think the ones with a longer barrel and ejector rod would be much better suited for that.
