It's not a replacement for tritium night sights, for sure. I put these on a Beretta 92fs and applied clear coat nail polish afterwards. Since the 92fs front sight is fixed to the frame, I tried this instead. It holds up well but like others said, you need to hit it with a light source for it to glow. In light, they are just like regular white paint sights. Are they better than white paint for sights? Yes. Are they better than tritium? No way.
I've played around with other glow in the dark paints (I'm assuming using the same strontium aluminate) and if you put nail polish over top of it it blocks the UV/blue light that charges it and it wont work as well.
Spill it on your carpet and you'll be surprised at how long it glows. I know. It wasn't as impressive on my gun sights.
This same company actually makes a glow in the dark paint that is specifically for firearms. It can be found on Amazon. The company does not recommend using this type of paint for night sights. Instead get the gun version for a little more.
Don't waste your money on this junk. I put this on a Taurus 709 slim and after 3 or 4 shots it falls off. One of the biggest gimmicks out there, and unfortunately, I fell for it.
I agree, this stuff is awful. I had a kit of this type of paint in many pigments and it doesn't glow for any length of time, maybe it'll glow for a minute at full brightness, but a minute or two later, it glows at 10% or less. I gave the kit to a neighbors 11 year old son, Don't expect this to even be 1% of what you'd expect from Tritium night sights. I bought the paint kit for a non firearm project, but the paint project got scuttled.
Last week I picked up two boxes of Noveske/Nosler Glow tip 5.56 ammo. It's equally as useless as this old school glow in the dark paint. I did however buy this ammo at half price and will be modifying it to be awesome.
My plan is to take one of my broken Tritium Marathon watches and put the tritium tubes into this Noveske glow tip, making the ammunition glow in the dark with no exposure to a light source.
Naturally I wont be shooting it, as their not tracers, and really will have no purpose, but they'll make good conversation pieces I can give away to friends as novelties.
I'll tell them it's radioactive ammo :)
This stuff is great. It needs a few minutes of exposure to serious light to glow brightly but it is WAY brighter than the glow you get from regular luminescent paint.
A lot of people in the review knock the fact that you need to expose these to light when guns are typically stored in a safe. Not sure how they use their guns but the ones I actually use for protection aren't safe queens. Even so, you could paint the sights of every gun in your safe and just install an LED strip in there to keep the paint charged up... Or do the same with a nightstand drawer. Cheap asses spend $10 on paint instead of $100 on night sights and whine about the disadvantages. Sigh.
