So...how do the alphabet bois feel about a machinist setting up a left and right handed AR each with a crank set to a high torque/low rpm motor all on a pintle mount? Asking for a friend

Well, looking at the legality of the question… It could be argued that it is legal. But ATF could argue that it’s not and their arguments tend to be a bit more persuasive in courts…

So, the 26 U.S.C. § 5845(b) defines a machine guns as “Any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.”

Your argument could be that despite having a motor, a single function of the trigger still fires only one round. ATF’s argument would likely be that the device attached to the trigger is part of the trigger and actuating the motor constitutes a single “trigger” pull which fires multiple rounds.

And at that point it would boil down to the persuasiveness of your lawyer and the judge’s stance on gun rights…

That may be true, but if it was me on trial, any ruling that would violate my constitutional rights would absolutely be going to the court of appeals if they feel like they want to drag it out.

I just want to add that substituting a small electric motor actuated by a button for the hand crank would be extremely easy and a lot of fun. You know....if you were inclined to want to do such a thing.

I just wanted to comment on the comments: Way to 'Merica, gents. Way to 'Merica... I'm proud of this thread lol. But, fr; God Bless freedom loving machinists.

As a machinist for the last 10 years, building something like that would be a fun project. Not hard, but definitely fun! Could probably even do it with a set of AR10s. With an adjustment nob to speed up or slow down the rate of fire.

Yeah you probably want bad ass muzzlebrake on there also, i’ve even thought about angled magazine wells so you could get two drum mags in there.

Using the bottom rail section of the for end, you could make a bracket for a mount for a pintle for a tripod. That would steady up the system too. A slight angle for the drums to clear for load/unload. Make sure one of them is a left handed upper to reduce any brass ejection stoppages.

I thought about a Gatling gun using fight light SCR pistols (you have to look them up) about five of them using their top Picatinny rails to Connect them in a circle.

Could possibly build one from an old fishing reel fellers.

The ultimate legal "Spray and pray"! I can think of a whole host of firearms this would take to a whole nother level.
Add a drum mag to something like the 10/22, Ak, AR15, etc and you'd probably roast your barrel very quickly. Haha. Can you imagine this one a semi auto shotgun with a drum mag, or an AR with a "double" drum mag! Wow....expensive to send all that lead down range but would have to be ALOT of fun doing it. Building a tripod and make some sort of permanent type Gatling gun setup would be awesome.
I am going to buy one if the reviews are good. I've always wanted to turn one of my 10/22's into a Gatling gun. Does anyone here actually own one and want to share their experience and opinion?

I would go with forced reset, but this is cheaper.

What force reset trigger is available?

alamo 15 has what is called a positive reset trigger. Skirts some atf regulations from what I read. Only available on gunbroker https://www.gunbroker.com/item/937086457... Be prepared to pay a hefty price.

Rare breed triggers are still available and there’s one more company I can’t remember the name though.

Is this even legal?

Yeah it’s legal, like a Gatling gun you have to manually crank it so that makes it legal.

Ok, interesting, adding the drill would be too? That would make bump stocks look like child’s play

That would make it illegal. Fyi

Now if I could just find a small battery powered motor to attach to the crank shaft.

You mean like a mini cordless drill ?
Seems like I've seen them before.......
everywhere ?

Def makes it illegal. Has to be manually operated or its an mg.

So what I'm thinking is that you use the crank to turn a weighted flywheel, then use another trigger to engage a clutch on the trigger paddle. Thus you are still the crank.

I was thinking about a motor the size of a silver dollar somewhat thicker. A button you could push to engage. But that would probably make it illegal with no crank.

Probably get one off a remote car at Wally for $10. Hook it up and hide behind a tree.
