This is 500 rounds, not 50

To everyone wondering why FN restricts this ammo, it is because FN specifically developed the 5.7x28mm round from scratch to penetrate body armor for NATO. Which is why FN as a company, doesn't see the need for non LE/MIL personnel to own it. Thats the big "secret." They don't address it because it has been like that since the very beginning.

This seller ships their ammo with adult signature required, so if youre not able to sit around and wait on your shipment, or want to drive to your local fedex hub, then you might reconsider. This is why I will not order from this company again

Seller was excellent to deal with. Price was the best I've found on 198 and arrived quickly. Highly recommend HPGS

To answer your question, YES, a person with LE/MIL credentials will have to buy the ammo for you at an authorized dealer. Why FN restricts the ammo, I can only speculate; That may be a question you have to refer to FN to get the correct answer.

Thanks again as this is what I needed to know as I'm not buying a gun I have to have someone else buy ammo for like I'm a common criminal. IMHO this is wrong & a stupid marketing move on FNs part as I'll never buy another FN. This is America where we are all free citizens. Shame on FN & I have loved their products all my life & bought 6 of their huge hard cover books on their history for gifts. Changing world I guess, Thanks again!

There's a bunch of different ammo that anyone may purchase. FN only limits this particular version to their mil/LE buyers.

HPGS is a MIL/LE buyer.

Thus, you may order this very ammo from this very seller (HPGS) whether you are civilian or MIL/LE.

No shipping, no cc fee, and no tax if you're outside of Arizona = best deal on the internet by far.

BaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaD Seller IMHO!

Not true. At least not in my experience. I've picked up two firearms from HPGS, and both purchases were top notch experiences--excellent communications, fast shipping, great prices. If you're going to bash the seller, at least explain why you don't like them.

EXCELLENT seller. This from one who's spent significant hard-earned money with the place.

And owns the place or is at least a shill.

Neither. Just a very satisfied customer.

Where may I find a better price including shipping? I can't find one.

I don't understand the statement that FN limits this to LE/Mil sales but it,s legal to purchase by civilian shooters? So can non Le/Mil but from you or does "civilian shooters" mean people who shoot civilians? Please clarify, Thanks!

Oh, nevermind (i.e., disregard my previous confusion over why you don't like HPGS). I saw these rants on the PS90 LE/Mil-only deal, and now it looks like I stepped in that mess. *sigh.*

You know, I once worked at a place that required safety gear and because of that I got a discounted rate on steel-toed boots. I kind of see these promos as the same thing. I get the concerns about creating 2 classes of citizens, but frankly it bothers me a lot more that as non-LE/Mil I can't own a select-fire short-barreled P90 than it does that those folks get special discounts on firearms I can own. If you don't like it, complain to FN for offering those deals or complain to gun.deals for not filing them in a special section so we don't get our hopes up on a stunning price only to click and be disappointed by "not for you." Blaming a shop for participating in LE/Mil special pricing promotions seems ... misguided.

Still didn't get an answer. I guess no customer service at high plains if your a 2nd class citizen? I wouldn't buy here if it were the last shop open. They make CTD look great!

FN supposedly limits their sale of this ammo to LE & military. There is nothing stopping the further sale of the ammo to civilians. HPGS is owned and operated by a mitary professional.

my thoughts exactly, if someone could shed some light on this that would be great. is the LE/MIL thing just a gimmick? or does FN just "prefer" this only be sold to LE?

We'd have to know FN's motive to be certain. It seems sincere, albeit politically motivated. Still frustrating for owners of the firearms who desire the most effective defensive ammunition.

But why all the silence from high plains. They choose to advertise on a site open to the public then write ads that I & others don't understand & won''t answer questions. NO customer service here.

Sorry....I just saw these comments. Flylo, anyone can buy this ammo, however we have been and we will always refuse sales to you. We do not partake in silly internet arguments and all you do is bash every deal of ours (that we dont even post btw) that someone posts on this website. Please go troll elsewhere.

High Plains is an exceptional seller. Expecting them to publicly address your question concerning a possibly sensitive issue is silly. If you want the ammo, purchase it. If not, then mind your own business. No need to stir up trouble or sabotage a good thing for others. No?

That' my question can a non le/mil buy this ammo from high plains? This is what he won't answer.

0 votes
3 votes

Yes! You can. Again, as stated in my initial post, the factory only sells to mil/LE. After that, there is nothing preventing the sale of the ammunition to qualified adults in the free states in America.

Maybe you should ask him on HIS site instead of a public site he doesn't own. You see deals for his goods doesn't mean he placed those ads here. A lot of the deals found here are placed by customers passing on the deals, without the knowledge of the owner.

High plains placed the ad or it would not say write gun.deals & pay no CC fees. Now he won't answer a simple question about spending my money buying his product he promoted & he's dealer of the year? When donkeys fly!

We have not placed the ad my friend. If we did place it, there would be a big red "Dealer Posting" underneath the area where you can vote it up or down.

I am a newby to the forum but I am a LE/MIL member. Here's how it works: if you are LE/MIL you can walk into the store and purchase as long as you have your credentials. If you are a non-LE/MIL, you can't buy from a authorized dealer as per their agreement with FN but you can purchase from an individual with those credentials and be perfectly legal. If you want to verify what I am saying is correct, try purchasing from the ARMORY and you will get the same answer. So quit bashing High Plains Gun for following an agreement required by FN.

Thank you! All I wanted was a truthful answer. But why will FN sell the guns to the public at a higher price than le/mil but not sell the ammo, so you have to have a le/mil buy it for you?

No major ammo maker sells direct to the public. FN is no different.

You may purchase this ammo from HPGS regardless of whether you are civilian or MIL/LE.

wasnt the ss192 the stuff that was banned for sale? whats the difference between ss192 and ss198lf?

Does nobody get that 5.7 is for defeating body armor? It's a specialty cartridge. If you don't have a use for this round don't buy it. The weapons that fire them hold 20/50 rounds in a tiny package as opposed to a more common, larger, cheaper option that has more general usage. Now go debate why pepperoni and sausage is the same as meet lovers because you can get 2 of the latter for the price of one of the former

Well, that's the issue; it's not the best, not by a long shot; and countless police departments and some govt agencies are proving this ( as are civvie buyers ) when they continue to buy the AR weapons family ( or other product like Glock/S&W). But in order to have the best "... because my family is worth it." I choose a medium powered rifle with a economically priced ammo family.

For Example:

PS90 Carbine might cost $1,284 and add 1,000 rnds 5.7 at .53 each = $1,814. go ahead shoot all that up, and we will say you are "trained/expert".

Now, I buy nice AR15 Carbine at $520 and add 1,000 rnds at .28 ea = $800. And I shoot that all up, and I am now "trained/expert"... plus, I spend another $1,014 on more ammo, = approx 3,621 rnds of more practice!

(This comparison uses zero taxes/ fees/ shipping, add-ons, range time, etc).

So, now I feel very safe/ expert/ solid in protecting my family with the Best.

And that is why buying a 5.7mm weapon with ammo just doesn't make sense for the majority of the Slick Gun audience. Thanks for reading my post.

PS: you could do the same with a 5.7 pistol vs a 9mm Glock/S&W.

I'll never understand the point of the gimmicky 5.7; oh well...

1 vote

That's a very uneducated statement. Go look into shootings with this round, and you will see it is very lethal. It's just an expensive round for most people. I prefer to buy the best though because my family is worth it.

High prices for this ammo, other bullet types, and of course for the pistols/ carbines are why this caliber family isn't going anywhere... bring prices down to a level to compete with its neighbors ( .223/ 7.62x39/ 9mm )( AR and AK families; Glock and S&W 9mm families ); and FN will see sales boom. As it stands, it is too much a High cost Police weapon, and the average Slick guns shooter is still stuck in the recession, trying to make ends meet. Not for me and my wallet.

If you're trying to decide whether this is the kind of company you want to do business with, go look at their prices for 22LR. $80 for a brick.

Steer clear, folks. Let's spend our money elsewhere.

1 vote

I'm not sure what the big issue is. PSA has been selling bricks of 22 for months now at $70 plus shipping, but everyone still rushes over there to spend money. (http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/federal-22lr-40gr-solid-500rds-510.html...)
Perhaps that is a reasonable mark up for what his cost for the brick of 22 is? PSA sells a lot more volume, so when taken in context, your comment doesn't really hold much weight.

As such, this 198 is cheaper than what we sell it for, and mind you, it is the only current production hollow point round in 5.7x28mm and it shoots 500 f/sec faster than older 195. Compare this with any other type of HP ammunition and its a sweet deal.

Is lead free normally this much more expensive than the standard "civilian" ammo with the ballistic tip?

this ammo has been very hard to come by, it travels at a higher velocity and can penetrate armor.

You were buying ss198 rounds for .25/ round or any 5.7x28 round for that matter? I'm calling BS, I've been shooting this caliber for years and even the cheap AE has never been that cheap even for law enforcement.
