Description
I think this is Mk 262 ammo. Hard to find, have been waiting for it to be in stock for awhile.
Constructed to military specifications, this 5.56 Military Ammo is the high quality you've come to expect from Federal's Lake City line. Each round is headstamped with the year of manufacture and the manufacturer's symbol and is put through a vigorous round of quality assurance before it's sent out to you. At 200 yds., it must possess an accuracy of 3-10 groups not to exceed 2" mean radius maximum average, 100% mechanical and/or electrical detection of propellant levels inside the catridge and 100% visual inspection of the completed cartridge before it can be packaged. All rounds have sealed primers making them perfect for long-term storage and protection from moisture.
These rounds are based off the U.S. Military's MK262 SPR cartridge.
THE CASE IS DISCOLORED.
You are correct, the case is discolored. This is because, per military specifications, all cases must be annealed. The military, unlike civilian production ammo, requires visual evidence of the annealing on the round itself. For this reason, the cases will appear to be discolored. These rounds meet military requirement for overall strength and durability.

This is Federal's version of Mk262, but, "Black Hills Ammunition worked for years, with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) and later the U.S. Navy, on a long-term project that resulted in MK 262 Mod 1. Civilian shooters can buy that exact same round—it just comes in a much prettier box—for improved downrange performance, accuracy, and lethality." (http://bit.ly/2f377ng...) [shootingtimes]
Technically Black Hills is the "real", "official" Mk262.
