  • Jon C - Washington I have owned two of the 512s with excellent experiences with both. First off, Eotechs glass and durability is excellent and the donut of death reticle is a standout and is my favorite up close reticle. A great combo with a 512 or any Eotech is a magnifier as the good glass and crisp reticle with a 1moa center dot makes taking longer shots a breeze. One model I tested was made in 2011 and the other a 2017, they had a few external differences but were otherwise identical in quality and function. Both held up well on all of my guns including short barreled .308 AR-10s. They hold zero very well and have held up very well to drops and submersions in mud and water. Some of the downsides are the obvious size and weight (11oz) versus other smaller cheaper red dots that also have 20-50 times the battery life. The Eotechs 1000 hours is pretty low but it isn't designed in the same way or for the same purpose as those other red dots and utilizes very common AA batteries. These are meant to be tough and reliable in more "professional" environments. For being quite tanky optics with great glass they are still high value as well compared to Aimpoints that can cost twice as much.

So dude at gun mountain in las vegas says that the military have a law suit against eotech because the scopes they sold them would not hold zero + had battery problems along with multiple other issues like them turning off and on when not in use etc. Aimpoint it is then.

When that lawsuit was filed, within hours L3 settled seems like they had insider knowledge of the amount Uncle Sammy would take. "By mid afternoon, L-3 had settled with the government for $25.6 million which clearly indicates L-3 has known since summer how much the US Government would be willing to accept in relief. Their quick action helped turn a drop in stock value of more than 6% at mid-day, yet they still closed the day down from opening prices."

Why buy a sight from a company that is owned by Lehman Brothers of Wall St? They are the 3rd L in L3.

Due to POI shift with change in temps from temp it was when zero'd

    From their website:
"Will the HWS hold zero as temperature changes?
EOTech's sights will experience a point of impact shift away from the point of aim when the sight is used at a temperature different from the temperature at which the sight was zeroed. This shift is greater the more extreme the temperature change. For example, when a sight is zeroed at 70°F then acclimated to 50°F, less shift will occur. On the other hand, if zeroed at 70°F, then acclimated to 0°F, more shift could occur. The maximum shift will occur at temperature extremes and could be up to 5 MOA. Therefore, to acheive optimum accuracy, the sight should be re-zeroed whenever the temperature changes markedly from the temperature at which the sight was zeroed."

This company tries hard to please it's customers. To me that is worth a few dollars more. Their prices on Leupold Mark 4's are some of the best I have found.

That's true. We'll be getting more in this week. I renewed the listing without checking inventory first. Sorry.

Too bad there isn't an active rebate right now at Eotech.

EOTech had a rebate last summer. Before that, the last time was in December of 2010. I wish they'd have one again, too, but I'm not counting on it.

That's a really good deal. I wonder why they don't run it all the time as we do with ours?

Not that great. Got the XPS2-2 from SG for $400 last week. The sight is freaking awesome, btw.

There's now a $60 factory rebate, so the 512 is $299.95 after rebate.
