  • Jon C - Washington I have owned two of the 512s with excellent experiences with both. First off, Eotechs glass and durability is excellent and the donut of death reticle is a standout and is my favorite up close reticle. A great combo with a 512 or any Eotech is a magnifier as the good glass and crisp reticle with a 1moa center dot makes taking longer shots a breeze. One model I tested was made in 2011 and the other a 2017, they had a few external differences but were otherwise identical in quality and function. Both held up well on all of my guns including short barreled .308 AR-10s. They hold zero very well and have held up very well to drops and submersions in mud and water. Some of the downsides are the obvious size and weight (11oz) versus other smaller cheaper red dots that also have 20-50 times the battery life. The Eotechs 1000 hours is pretty low but it isn't designed in the same way or for the same purpose as those other red dots and utilizes very common AA batteries. These are meant to be tough and reliable in more "professional" environments. For being quite tanky optics with great glass they are still high value as well compared to Aimpoints that can cost twice as much.

I’ve heard people say this is one of the best SHTF red dot since they are near indestructible and run on AA’s. I total agree that it is huge in comparison to mini and micro dots that are out.

    EoTech is outdated and overrated

What would you suggest over an Eotech?

I just got one elsewhere. Excellent and great with a 3x mag. Need reliable dependable equipment. Incase the boot kicks off. The 1 moa dot in the center works well magnified.

I hate the size of this thing. I'm curious about the weight but this price is getting harder and harder to pass up.

    Agreed they're way too bulky

Was about to pull the trigger until I did my due diligence and started reading the Brownells reviews... lots of 1 star ratings for nonfunctional product out of the box. Not willing to take the chance, especially given their contributions to commies

Why would someone want a 512 when they can get a MRO or PRO for a similiar price?

Astigmatism, I’d want one of the more compact EOTECHs tho.

Because you can't get an mro or a pro for that price.

As someone with astigmatism Eotech's are the only option for me besides I love the reticle. For the prices Brownells is selling these it's a no brainer great customer service.

I have astigmatism and I had to sell off my 512 when I started to see three circles. They aren’t astigmatism proof.

I suffer from the same affliction, any kind of prism optic or etched reticle should work for you.

Just got mine, fast shipping from Brownells and their forever guarantee made this too good to pass up. These new model 512's have a 10 year warranty also along with a 2500 hr battery life much improved over the old models.

L3 Technologies (AKA Eotech) is playing both sides of the fence so either way they are protected ... in other words they don't really help our situation

I have the 517. Mine stopped holding zero and also has the spider web cracks between the glass running around the edges. Not happy about that but Eotech is fixing it for free. So their CS seems to be really good

This problem has been fixed somewhat recently, there's a way to tell if the one you receive is in the 'updated' range but I don't recall what that is but it's been a while now since they implemented the fixes so chances are these are as GtG as any other sight. Obviously there's a point where everything's effected by weather.

These are built like a tank, your not gonna break it. The objective quality is so-so, you should expect better at this price point. If I had to do it again i would pass, I prefer my trijicon or aimpoint. My 512 now lives on my little hk mp5 22lr.

One great thing about Brownells is their Forever Guarantee. Look it up, as long as they're in business they'll take care of you. I'm willing to pay more from Brownells knowing they offer this guarantee.
"100% Satisfaction Guarantee on Everything We Sell
If you aren't completely, 100% satisfied with any purchase you receive from Brownells, for any reason, at any time, return it for a full refund or exchange. No hassle, no problem. And, we won't bog you down in endless paperwork. Your complete satisfaction with each and every product we sell is what's most important to us." How can you beat that?

Eotech can keep their stuff. Had one of these and couldn't see a thing in the sunlight.... And for all you Eotech lovers out there... yes I had new batteries in it and yes it was turned up... Glad I traded them off before the market has dropped out on them...

If it was still under warranty they will replace the electronics. There is a lifespan to the laser inside. About $80 to get it fixed if out of warranty. Otherwise these things are tanks.

Yep, there’s a reason many Tier 1 operators in USSOCOM run EOTechs on their rifles. Let the haters say what they like, these are frontline battle-tested optics. I’ve never had a single moment of trouble with my 512, and I paid $400 for mine. At this price, it’s a screaming bargain.

Don't forget the 4% cashback via activejunky (before the rebate) -- extra $13.20 off, so the final price will be $241.79.
