I once read that handguns were simple machines of high quality of manufacture given that standard My comment is directed to the 38 special version of this revolver only! I believe that the frame of this revolver is made of a zinc alloy ( trade name ZAMAK) Given that ,if it is the price should be lower to reflect the quality (steel not being used and machined) Many gun manufactures are using zinc alloy in their products and buyers may or may not be aware of this I am still researching on this subject Does anyone have any thoughts on this ???
I would save a little more and buy a steel framed revolver. Aluminum frames have a history of issues. It depends on how much you shoot. Aluminum framed revolvers wear out quick compared to steel frame.
I also have the .357 version. It's VERY accurate in single action. But double action is a totally different story due to the long and heavy trigger. The grip is just a bit short for me but OK overall. As said by others, it's heavy with a good balance to it and feels very well built. Made in Germany. My FFL knew German and said the name (Weihrauch) means Holy Smoke which I thought was cool!
I own the .357 model. Great revolver. Feels solid. Seats into your hand and goes bang every time. No problems with it. I paid around $260 or so two years ago. I would skip on the .38 and go with the .357 version and have both calibers at your disposal.
I own the 357 also...It's a nice gun for the small amount of $$, plus you can shoot less expensive 38's for target practice !
I agree with FloFlow...""go with the .357"" !!!
handled 1 not to long ago. I woulda bought it for a truck gun it if it was .357. I was amazed at how heavy it felt, but it had good balance tho, it appeared to be well built and didn't "feel" cheap. I dont think my back could deal with it's weight being on my hip all the time. for as heavy as it felt in my hands I would carry a full size 1911 in a shoulder rig first...
I just held one at LGS and it's Heavy. The cylinder was grabby/not smooth acting. Sights looked ok and trigger pull wasn't too heavy. They wanted $300. So put one in your hand before buying.
The .357 is like $20 more. Why get this one?
