Made exclusively for Cabela's by Colt, the Competition Series .223 Rem./5.56x 45mm NATO Semiautomatic Tactical Rifle was born for a good shoot-off. With a guaranteed sub-MOA accuracy at 100 yards using quality ammunition and appropriate optics, it's not hard to see why. The 16" HBAR-contour, 4150 chrome-moly steel free-floating barrel has been proof-fired and air-gauged to precise bore dimensions. It comes equipped with a standard mil-type A2-style bird-cage vented muzzle brake. Threaded barrel accepts most standard-sized muzzle devices. The 1:8 rate-of-twist button rifling is optimized for 55-77 gr. bullets. Other highlights of this tack-driving machine include a gas-operated, direct-impingement system and smooth Colt 6-lb. target trigger with protective-coated parts for long service life and consistent pull. Mil-type folding trigger guard allows use with thick winter gloves. Rifle comes equipped with a M4-style, six-position adjustable stock with steel sling loop; A2 military-style polymer grip; mil-type standard charging handle; 5-slot, adjustable Picatinny handguard rail; 10" CNC-machined aluminum float-tube handguard; front swivel stud; and aluminum 30-round magazine. Upper and lower receivers are forged in USA from 7075-T6 mil-spec alloy. Upper receiver has 13-slot Picatinny rail. Rampant Colt and stylized "C" Colt logos on left side receiver. Mil-spec diameter receiver extension tube. Includes Colt cantilever scope mount, padlock and chamber flag. Manufacturer's one-year warranty.

I actually like these... I'm not a huge colt fan. Especially over the last 3 or 4 years. There are so many quality AR options now from other companies so no need to pay for the colt name anymore. These on the other hand seem like a decent value for a step up from entry level AR platforms. Don't get me wrong as I love my 605 carbine which was my first AR but models like the expanse just can't compete with similar models made by smaller nimble organizations. Just my two cents. I do love the colt name. Definitely an American classic. I'd be curious to take one of these out but I defiantly don't need another basic AR as I have a safe full that don't get touched anymore. If you do have the chance grab a 605 as I have well over 5K rounds through it and it's still an amazing rifle. It just feels different that anything available now days... I had it out last weekend and it was putting out tighter groups than my brand new PWS mk1 mod2...
When I got mine (wasn't the Cabelas version, I have a Bold Ideas one- it's fantastic) all of them had been test fired at the factory and the test target was inside of the box. The guy said that the factory won't ship them if they don't get 1 MOA and that the targets typically were coming in @ 1/2" MOA. $699 is an amazing price for the quality of these Colt Competitions.

Colt Competition is a company in Texas that licenses the Colt brand name. They are not owned by Colt. If it wasn't made in Connecticut, it wasn't made by Colt. That isn't to say these are bad rifles, but the marketing is very misleading.
Wrong. Colt competition is part of Colt. They manufactured these guns in Connecticut until 2013 when the laws of their state changed. They moved to Texas to avoid penalties. Read about it. This is part of the article.

They are not part of Colt, that's the point of the licensing deal. Colt is an entirely separate entity from colt competition. different ownership, different management, different factories. In an effort to generate another revenue stream and to also capitalize on their strong brand name, Colt grants the licensee (Colt Competition) the right to produce and sell these firearms with a brand name and trademark.
Sorry, but I am unable to find any legitimate documents that suggest that Colt has any ownership in "Colt Competition" (although there are several poorly written and incorrect articles on the web). If you zoom in on the picture on Cabela's website you can even see that it says "LICENSED PRODUCT". Does your rifle say that? "Colt Competition" is a trade name originally licensed by New Colt Holding Corp. (since taken over by Colt Defense, LLC which has subsequently gone into bankruptcy) to a company called "Bold Ideas" out of Canby, Oregon. By all accounts, these are fine rifles, but Colt's only involvement was to take a royalty payment for the use of their name on the rollmark.
That's definitely a hell of a lot of gun for the price, especially considering they guarantee sub-MOA accuracy.

Wow, I stand corrected. You are correct. I called colt competition to find out myself. Colt competition is a different division of colt. They are made under "strict guidelines and produce a high-quality product like Colt would in their own factory. Thank you for setting me straight on this topic.
