"You must be a member of our Buyer's Club to use this coupon" for the $10.00 eGift card, Blah!

I got in on the $20.00 eGift card a few days ago.
I'm not a member and got my eGift card emailed to me the next day.

Bought it and will post if egift card was not sent or any problem.

How is this a deal? I can buy brass cased SS109 ammo elsewhere for less. Shipped free.

EDIT***Ok, didn't realize it came with a $20.00 egift card, effectively making it more than free. My bad.

So buy just one box with free shipping and get $20 egift card? What's the catch?

There is none. They did this last year this time too. And these fools around here hate SG because of their club prices. They are the cheapest on ammo all the time!

If you don't reload it makes little difference either way.

And of course you failed to mention the most important difference... your link is 55gr, this is 62gr. Apples to oranges, or at least Golden Delicious to Pink Ladies. FWIW I've run about 700rds of this 62gr Colt stuff through 3 different AR's and it's been flawless. Just used it for plinking and murdering paper at 200 yds or less so I'm not necessarily recommending it as defense/SHTF ammo but every single one has gone "bang" when it was supposed to. Hope the crates of Wolf Gold 55gr I've got waiting in the wings perform just as well.

Point well made but I have shot both and I can not tell a 55 grain hole from a 62 grain hole in a target. Plus some people with high dollar firearms think steel casing will damage their gun, cause hang-ups or the zinc coating will build up causing jams. Brass casing does give you the option of reloading.

Smooth Operation

I have also shot a ton of the Colt ammo (although it's funny they pimped themselves out to a Russian company) and have had NO jams, FTF, FTE, or anything but smooth operation. Great ammo.

What is "zinc-plated" ammo, and why would Colt make something like this?

0 votes
0 votes

Steel casing coated with Zinc - Cheaper than Brass coated
(like Golden Bear ammo).
"Colt" just a name used to make you think it is better than
"Silver" Bear ammo!

Have shot both - Only difference between "Colt" and "Bear" is the picture on the box!

Wow. I'm surprised Colt would put out garbage. Times have changed.

This "garbage" has performed no differently from any other "value" 223 ammo I've shot.

I'm sure it performs. Just sad seeing an American company selling Russian steel, especially a company like Colt.

I bought this awhile back (When brass was much higher) and it cycled just fine for me. Just make sure to clean because it is a bit dirty from my experience.
Hopefully it will go down a bit more in price.

I like this ammo, if your rifle can't eat it, there's something wrong with your rifle.
This stuff was going for 6:15/box this past winter. Why is the price going back up?

Sorry, not saving $0.03 per round to feed steel case to my expensive guns and then not be able to reload either.

I'll pass and let the cheapskates have it all.

The price of brass is coming down to almost the same price now. I would wait on this to drop some more or buy the Wolf "Gold" for about $355 for 1000 or $180 for 500 rounds. Works out to be about .36-37 cents a round.

I bought 30+ boxes of this stuff a while back, and it absolutely will not cycle in my PSA AR15. I tried it in 5+ different mags and was having all sorts of problems, failure to feed, failure to eject, etc. Didn't matter what I did, it absolutely wouldn't cycle properly. As soon as I used some of my buddy's ammo, the gun functioned perfectly using the same magazines. Great price, but be aware that this might not work in your gun!

Heavy weight shipping notice for 16 boxes? Never seen this before from sportsman's guide, can someone elaborate?

0 votes

I have seen that before whenever I order over 200 rounds. They increase shipping to 15$. You should split your order in half and use the 15$ off of $50 nra code and shipping only 10$ per order since less rounds.

I just shot a box of this stuff out of my brand new 6920, probably rounds 60-80 through it. I had no feed or ejection problems, it shot just as well as Independence 5.56 I shot right before it. I was using a PA dot ( https://gun.deals/product/special-purchase-microdot-riser-8999... ) so I would not trust my accuracy report, but it seems to be just as good if not better for accuracy than the aforementioned 5.56. This is now an auto buy for me anytime they have some sort of gimmicky get a free gift-card with any order like last month.

The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good.

This is Barnaul ammo!

I ordered a batch of this ammo through this site's link. I am a BC member so I got the best price (with free shipping coupon). Thea ammo itself is actual Barnaul ammo, just boxed & labeled with Colt (with a modified rampant Colt logo. SPG was very good to ship the ammo out fast and I received it quickly. Overall an awesome deal.

The Zinc plating is supposed to be cleaner shooting than lacquer, but at this price its still a good deal.

For plinking ammo or even training where you cannot collect your hulls this is a good deal.

I have been seeing these for a few days. Today I grabbed a bunch. Never shot em before but I am sick of shooting my expensive stuff for plinking!

Ordered and received a few days later. Got it with free shipping. Although they aren't brass cases, im not complaining about 100rds for about $30.

If this back ordered do I still get the gift card?

0 votes

This is basically a "free shipping later" gift card. This gift card will be treated as a coupon code so when you buy more ammo at a later date and they charge you around $20 to ship it. Since you can only use one coupon code at a time you can't combine it with a code of...say....free shipping!

The gift card will not be treated as a coupon, gift cards can be used in conjunction with coupon codes at TSG.

Great deal. Just spent $18.51 for 60 rounds of ammo and a $20 gift card? I wonder if these "gift cards" will really be coupon codes. Came to -$0.0248/rd shipped!

GD, just got an email 5 minutes later saying its back ordered to 3/2/14. Second time this week they do this crap to me.

I ordered on 12/14 and it shipped on 12/16. You just waited too long buddy.
Also, I'm pretty sure we get gift cards, not coupon codes, since they say to wait 7-14 days for the gift card to arrive in the mail.

Bought 26 boxes and the 1 year membership for $182.09 - (2) $10 coupons - (1) $50 GC.
Came out to $0.158/rd shipped (not including the cost of membership).

Excellent price and decent quality for 62gr at .32 cents a round. A 'cheap' target practice ammo that will be very close in trajectory to my self defense 62gr rounds. Thanks for the ad.

No a fan of zinc or silver casing for one reason: it can be overlooked by range masters when performing a clearing check. The metal can blend in with the chrome interior of a chamber rather easily. Not a HUGE deal, but I'd hate to be nearby if there was an accidental discharge.

This is rebadged Silver Bear. That said, I shot this at the range this past week (180rds) with no problems out of my RGuns upper.

Been close to pulling the trigger on some steel cased 223 @ 30 cents a round for a while now. Like that this is zinc-plated and about the same price. So all kidding aside, is this good stuff? Better than Wolf or Tula 'standard' steel cased 223?

I got light strikes on 308 version of this ammo. With that experience I would say go tula/wolf/silver bear/herters/mfs I have not had light strikes on any of those.

Not sure about the .223 version but I got light strikes with the 308 "Colt" ammo using full power hammer springs in my 308 AR. I have not had these problems with MFS 308 steel case ammo, they must use harder primers in "COLT". (I have same problem with brown bear 9mm (hard primers) but not with tula or wolf 9mm.
