Personally, the most useful machete I found for doing yard work (such as reaching low branches, clearing tall brush) has been a $7 Wal Mart blade. Add a $5 sharpening stone and you have a winning combo that will last you years.

Just in time for carving the Turkey!
I like cold steel products but this one hangs in the barn collecting dust. I don't know about hacking up ballistic gel or stabbing old jeans stuffed w BBQ fodder, as I've never done either but I do have 5 different cold steel machete's and their bolo machete is the best one to actually use as a machete of the 5 I have so far. I keep looking for a single design that works better for all my needs on the farm and haven't found it yet
Their 2 handed cane machete has been the best one for quartering hooved critters, again, so far...
