Kinda want to try it but why neglect my nicely set up 10/22 lol

Was looking forward to getting this for all the reasons others listed. Cheap fun, practice in backyard. Shot exactly 7 rounds before packing it back up and returning to Brownells.
Failure to eject or feed on 6 of the 7 shots. Last straw was the case ruptured on 7th shot and sent metal debris back to me. Good thing wore safety glasses.

What upper, barrel, lower, gas, buffer, ammo were you using? Thanks for the review.

im finding this hard to accept I've been running two of these on AR-15s for 3 years or more had some bad ammo with good hits on the primer ends. I find them to run flawlessly good luck with what your saying. Not bitten !

Great questions. For the initial test run wanted to minimize the variables. So did not use one of my Frankenbuilds. Used completely stock SW MP15 w/ 16" barrel. Ammo was Winchester SuperX 40 gr 1300 fps. Not new stock either as I find new ammo quality is VERY iffy. So from my older stock.
I did want to mention that on initial inspection of the kit, it appeared very high quality. Very good machining and smooth action by hand. That's why I was rather disappointed with the results. Kit was ordered and tested in December 2022.

I have one sitting on the shelf unused. They sell, but I have been leery putting it into one of mine. Thanks for the caution and glad to hear you are okay.......eyes are expensive.

Thanks. It could be I happen to get a bad one. Others seem to enjoy theirs.

I think this will make anyone who owns an AR and can’t get somewhere suitable to shoot .223 & 5.56 on a regular basis thrilled. Lots of indoor ranges limit use to pistol caliber and .22lr ammo, and it’s not always super easy to get out in the woods/range/desert to shoot. It doesn’t turn your AR into a 22lr hunting rifle or target rifle, but accuracy is fine from 25 to 50 yards. A group you can shoot the size of a nickel with a 10/22 might spread out to 2” at those ranges. I note that if your scope is set up for AR ammo it will not be zeroed correctly so you'll have to figure out where to aim if using the optic or even iron sights. I think that some of the accuracy complaints come from this. Check the youtube review by .22 Plinkster.

As far as a range toy, think of it this way: a 30 round mag dump of .223/5.56 costs $13 to $16, and a 30 round mag dump of mini-mags at .10 a round costs $3.00! Not a ton of recoil difference since .223 is pretty light and a crapload less loud.

This price from Brownells is pretty good ($162 as of 2/2023) for 3 magazines included, and even if they’re not always cheapest, you can trust Brownells to get your stuff to you pretty quickly and offers excellent customer service if anything is off.

I tried one once and was disappointed with the accuracy. That being said, it functioned perfectly for me with cci mini mags. I decided to go with a dedicated 22 cal ar platform rifle made by walther.

I love these things. I don't know if I got mine from Brownells or Primary arms, but it was about a year ago and cost more than this on sale. I've run mine in a 16" Aero upper (so BA barrel) and it's plenty accurate at plinking distances. Allows me to also shoot my AR at my local 50" indoor pistol range. My only complaint, if any, is that the magazines are a pain to load.

Mags will not accept more the 10 CCI stingers without jamming. They are a little longer. Other brand mags will take all 25, not Cmmg. It does work well with other 22 loads.

Great product. Got a squirrel in my scoped 16” AR with it even! Would anyone know how much of a difference swapping my .22 over to .223 would make with sighting in my scope?

$173.98 total shipped to me in GA from this seller: https://dackoutdoors.com/product/cmmg-22ba651-bravo-22-conversion-kit-with-3-25rd-mags-stainless-steel-black... - I haven't dealt with them

I really started to enjoy this kit when I got the special charging handle that prevents spent 22lr casings from getting lodged in the groove of a standard charging handle. The CMMG handles are made of polymer, but seem durable. I made some aluminum CHs for the 22lr conversion by filling the groove. Both work prefect for their intended job with these conversions. Great to have now

It will also get an occasional case stuck

Not sure what you mean. This kit does not include a CH, you use the CH included with your .223/5.56 AR-15 which should NEVER EVER EVER be made of polymer. How would the casings get lodged in any CH? There is a bar at the top of the kit that has a bar running the entire length of the "grove" and the spent casing eject 90 degrees down from the 12 o'clock / grove position.

Here is the CMMG charging handle with description. Obviously, normal charging handles should not be poly and I know this kit does not come with a charging handle... but CMMG should include this replacement CH to make this set up run reliably out the package

I have this exact kit and it did not come with a CH. After 1000's of rounds through this conversation kit, I still do not understand how on earth a casing could get stick in a standard charging handle but if they make a solution, there must be a problem.

Look up CMMG charging handle for AR conversion. They make one specifically for this issue. The small 22lr casing can lodge in the groove of the charging handle and CMMG sells a poly CH that has this groove filled to avoid stoppages. I know from experience as I have two of these kits and run them numerous times in numerous different set ups.

This is cheaper from 5 other vendors when looking at the "Live Inventory Search" on this very page. Normally these are $160. Shame shame Gun.deals.....

Does anyone know if these conversions are a full auto bolt carrier group?

I bought the Fostech Echo trigger and it would be great to run cheaper ammo when I'm firing all day.

You’ll need the fostech auto sear trip kit for 22lr. Ditch these cmmg mags and buy black dog machine magazines. My cmmg mags would jam multiple times per mag. The BDM mags run nearly flawlessly with my echo and cmmg 22lr upper. Also, spinning a bore brush in the chamber of the 22lr will polish it up a lot and help smooth out feeding.

+1 for Black Dog Machine mags. They have great customer service as well. I had a couple of really old mags and one cracked; they sent replacements NQA. questions asked.

Great accessory! Don't trust your life to it- definitely not the most reliable piece of equipment but a lot of fun at the range. Probably about 1000+ RDS thru it and it has been great.

Junk! After only 50 rounds, gouged a huge chunk out of the inside of my upper receiver sending metal shavings all through the trigger mechanism and lower receiver. While cleaning I found that a retaining pin walked out of the CMMG bolt which caused it to cut into the upper receiver with each round. CMMG had me send it in for replacement but they only replaced the pin - which did not fit flush with the bolt. Same issue, continued to gouge out the receiver. CMMG wouldn't do anything else to fix the issue. It's a crap engineered product. Just buy a .22 AR with todays prices and save some aggravation.

Is this the same kit from a year ago when you first posted ? Just seems odd to me that you felt the need to post almost the same post again 10 months later. Did you buy another kit or just reposted what you had already posted?

My BCG cracked on both sides less than 100 rounds. I am returning it for a refund so I cannot recommend it.

Minor sanding to front bushing and good to go. Only 2 pipes in 300+ rounds, blame on cheap ammo

I bought this kit a year ago and works great. Just lube the bolt up and no problems yet.

I love mine for cheap plinking with my Ruger AR556. I can shoot for hours using the same platform I would use for more serious work. Great deal with the 3 mags.

This is only for training with your AR and for fun plinking, if you want accuracy, then buy a Ruger 10/22 for $50 more.

I Agree. Shooting a .556 barrel for a 22LR works, BUT far from being accurate. It is not as smooth and tight as using a dedicated .22 barreled rifle.

They are not very accurate. I agree.

Got one so my son can get used to it.Works great. Easy swap out. Only glitch is front bushing too snug. Easy sanding with wet sand paper and fits perfectly. Ran about 300 .22 through it and only 2 pipes

I had the same problem with the bushing, one email later to CMMG and I had a replacement in my had 72 hours later. No proof of purchase required.

I don't get the allure... Cheap plinking I get but not at the expense of gouging an upper receiver... I mean look at that cheap POS. From an engineering standpoint, failure is imminent. Read comments from others below.

Analyze what you're buying. Three $10 mags and some lightweight "imitation" of an actual bcg for $180?... Christ. They gotta love selling you these. A legitimate Toolcraft bcg with three PMAG's are less.

A couple more bucks will get you a dedicated .22 rifle and who wouldn't rather that?

No wonder they lowered the price to $160.

Lube the inside walls of the upper receiver with thick grease that’s compatible with aluminum and high heat resistant and also lube the .22 BCG a bit and there will not be any problems

But if you love to run your ARs dry, then also try to run your car engine dry and see what happens

NCS gave me $15 off and free shipping for this. Great deal! Almost bought it from Midway last week for $140, but there was no free shipping and only one magazine. This is a better deal!
