half of the 7.62x39 gun.deals front few pages is Cabelas constantly reposting their N-paps that they priced $200-$225 over the price of everyone else when readily available since no one wants to buy them for that price

Last of the Opaps were $529 before they sold out and they we're a better rifle. Prices really went up on AKs inThe last 4 years

Do these come with chrome-lined barrels can anybody tell me thatl

I just did and a Midwest industries rail mount. Not sure what optic. Either a vortex red dot or mueller 1-4 speed shot.... Was also looking at the leatherwood 1-4 with the 7.62x39 reticle but a little more then I want to spent...

Any suggestions?

This photo shows the original stock with the high comb, but the models currently imported have the typical Warsaw length and height stock. Overall, it is hard to beat for the money, when you consider you are getting an AK built in a military factory with a long history of producing AK rifles. Also, it has a cold hammer forged barrel, which will give you longer barrel life. I paid $529 for mine nearly four years ago. If you are looking to get into the AK game and don't want to spend a lot, then the NPAP or WASR are for you.

Great!! You just made my day;). I was debating on another AR but I already have a safe full. I love the 7.62 round in AR so can't believe I didn't pick one up earlier.... I was watching the Arsenals but could not bring myself to spend $1100...

Way better than the Ras47, c39, and IO

You can actually make an offer of $560. This is my first AK as they seem to be fairly recommended. At least over the ras47. Hopefully this ends up being a good choice. Seems like a decent deal......

This is a nice rifle for $520, but don't think for a minute that this is "the best AK you can buy for under $1,000". That's ridiculous.

They are reported to have not been heat treated properly. Of course, it's an AK so that should not affect function. Maybe an early bolt failure, is all. Here is reading on the subject:

Caused by the Crapco triggers. Seems to be happening with all AK's. No reports of it causing any issues though.

I disagree with you.

Funny that several people on the thread you post also disagree with your assessment.

I'm lifting this off of the exact same thread you posted:

Courtesy of Mel64d:
All my guns have TAPCO hammers. Not one carrier has ever "mushroomed" on me....but I do the file and sanding of the hammer before they are ever shot.

The original hammer is more flat and the TAPCO has a hump. The TAPCO hump on the hammer always keeps the hammer in contact with the carrier. This is why you do not get "trigger slap" with the TAPCO. The TAPCO has 3 angles on the hammer profile. The back angle nearest the rear trunnion leaves a sharp edge if you will, and the carrier nub makes contact with this edge when it pushes back on the hammer. This is IMO what causes the "mushroom" effect on the carrier.

The angle on the un modified TAPCO hammer and the angle on the carrier nub are different. But after enough rounds are shot the two angles will self correct over time/rounds fired.

Re-profiling the TAPCO hammer will cause this to not happen, and if it does, it will not be much. Re-profiling the hammer will also keep the carrier from "sticking" in the back position when charging it like a little girly man.

But I do think the Yugo's suffer from soft steel parts, and or not heat treated properly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~back to my comments~~~~~~
I'll tell you why I disagree, it is because I also only have the G2 trigger in all my AKs and the only one that is mushrooming is my M92PV. My O-pap doesn't have it but my brother-in-law's N-pap does. Both with Tapco FCG.
In the gun world "Crapco" almost always refers to tacticool mall ninja accessories. No one that really knows would call the G2 FCG crap, it is among the best in the AK world - All for a measly $25.
The Man
"I apologize to ask and I don't mean any disrespect at all but why is everyone so worried about this? All of my ak's do this, all my Saiga's anyway. Now, I know if it does it too bad and I mean really bad, It COULD allow the rifle to detonate out of battery if the hammer follows home while shooting really really fast or bump firing and the firing pin hits the primer before the bolt locks completely into battery. One of my Saigas in 7.62x39 has been used by many people and has A LOT of rounds through it and that little nub has peened down quite a bit, enough to the point where you can tell if you ride the hammer home by hand, by the time it touchs the bolt, the bolt still is locking into battery a bit, I can still slide fire the fucker and it has not blowin' out a case yet. This is not the rifle that was splitting case necks either. Everyone that is curious about the mushrooming should sleep well knowing that its gonna take like a quarter inch of mushrooming to be of any worry."
rbox1064
"Someone above asked about the Tapco hammer. I 2nd that. The G2 hammer facing seems to be the common factor in most all carrier mushrooming incidents I've seen. Most of the G2's I've seen look like they have a camel hump where other hammers are smooth."
tweek
"Problem is caused by the g2 hammer. It's not just the sharp ridge that pushes up on the bolt carrier, it is profiled wrong. Can be unsafe. The tail is only remaining safety to prevent a out of battery detonation, and the wrong profile of the g2 gives a much higher potential for disaster. Compare the profile of a factory full auto hammer for the way the parts are supposed to work with each other."
Sweersa
"Both of my Romanian G guns on NDS-3 receivers have the same excessive looking wear on the bolt carriers. They never required any filing to work right, just something common on AKs, as AKBLUE mentioned.
I just checked my Yugoslavian M70AB2 which has had enough rounds through it to barely pass the bullet test (was a service rifle) and it has very little peening on the bolt carrier. Figures. lol
I wouldn't worry about the bolt. My bolts get wear on them too and so far have not exploded on me."
JIGBALLS
"USA made trigger components are the constant in all of these issues. It could be the hammer geometry is off compared to the originals . This issue has been around for years , has anyone seen some solid fixes ?"
soul rebel
"I have the same issue on my sgl21. I replaced the trigger with a tapco g2. I think it's the hammer on the g2 that is causing the mushrooming. How hard are the g2s compared to the zastava FCGs?"
al3x_murphee
"Had the same problem with my G2 and SLR 104... Just changed back to factory trigger. The mushrooming isn't terrible, so hopefully stopped it in it's tracks. No issue with the spring being out of spec.
Hopefully that new ALG trigger won't cause the same issues..."
Relax Troll. Everyone knows that in a hundred post thread, you can cherry pick the posts to meet your narrative. Like you have just done.
I get that you don't own any of these rifles, but I do. My direct experience is that the consumer firearms from Zastava such as the M92 and the N-pap are not heat treated properly. You can continue to believe that the problem is the G2 trigger, but you will continue to be wrong.
My WASRs (several), Saiga, and O-pap do not have these problems. My M92 and my brother-in-law's N-Pap do.
The problem is the people that only own one Ak and it's an N-pap. They cannot bear the thought of their only AK being "not right." So, like all candy ass modern humans, they make excuses and blame everything else except the real problem.
"Waaaaa, the hammer is just too hard for my wittle AK."
If the hammer is too hard for you, maybe you should harden up!
How's the reliability on these? Also, would it be worth it to pay more to get an Arsenal?
Best AK you can buy for under $1000
Better than an Arsenal
The only negatives people can give these is that they're heavy and don't take standard AKM furniture. If you aren't a mall ninja pansy that won't matter anyways
"QC Inspected ( Quick Check Inspection ): Our staff will perform a quick Visual inspection of the firearm's sights ( no cants within reason ), Magazine fit ( positive lock up ), Action operates ( bolt moves freely ) ."
You should probably be doing this for every AK you buy anyway, BEFORE you sign to receive it. Even the very best sometimes have the dreaded canted front sight or sloppy magwell.
Good reliable gun for a good price. I was fortunate to buy one at a gun show down in Houston a couple weeks ago for 500 out the door. Only issue i had was a stiff safety but who needs a safety. (just kidding)
Good price; great rifle. I have several AKs, but this always seems to be my 'go to' choice. It is extremely well made and very accurate. I highly recommend the N-PAP.
I read so many different manufacturers and sellers description that I dont know who I should believer. If this is pure import then yes this is a great buy but my senses are telling me that It might not be. CAI usually makes their own. Unless this was a 10 rounder which they milled out and made into a 30. I love when people say that this and any other AKMs are pure 30 round imports. Unless they were impored before 1993 then yes otherwise no. If anyone has more info either write a reply to this post or send me msg. Thanks all
Warning! Great price, reliable rifle, but it's torturous to impossible to use the iron sites. The oversized unconventional buttstock puts the cheek rest way to high, at least for me & my XL-sized head. If you want to use the iron sites, plan on swapping or modifying the buttstock to normal AK form. If you prefer an optic, then the buttstock is perfect, just add a quality side mount rail and you're good to go with base (non-elevated) optics.
