I bought these as well as the Howard Leight Impact Pro's. I Only tested them both outdoors during a defensive pistol class where I needed to hear the commands of the range officer. I cannot speak for the performance of these indoors. I'm new to electronic hearing protection. I always used regular non electronic (Passive) 33db reducing muffs indoors. You need more hearing protection indoors as the sound is pretty well contained... hence louder. These Champions work good outdoors. When shooting indoors, I will test the Impact Pro's, but likely stick with the Passive (non electronic) earmuff. We'll see. As compared to the Howard Leight Impact Pros, these are a little more tinny... meaning, you hear more treble and not as much mid range of people's voices. The mic pics up wind noise a little more on these. The Impact Pro's minimize wind noise better. All in all, these are great for outdoor hearing protection. I will use these as a back ups or loaners as I have the Impact Pro's. If you're looking to save money, these will do the trick and then some. You'll have to do some research on whether these are good for the type of shooting you will be doing (.22 LR non compensated rifle vs. maybe a compensated .50 BMG) and environment (Outdoors or indoors). Remember, electronic ear muffs are just designed to let you hear others speak while cutting out loud noises. Some will also amplify voices. If you don't need to hear people talking, go with passive earmuffs. They offer better protection. You can even double up the protection by using foam ear plugs and passive ear muffs. I do this when shooting the compensated 50 BMG. Champions will not adequately protect you around a .50 BMG.

One more thing to mention about these Champions is that the left and right ear muffs have independent power/ volume controls. I turned them both all the way up when testing mine. There is no visual indicator what position the knob is in... such as half volume, full volume, or off. You have to turn the knob all the way counter clockwise I believe to shut them off. You will likely be adjusting the volume with them on your ears. You cannot visually check them against any markings to know that they're on or off. I added my own paint marks... Otherwise, I cant tell if my kid or whoever forgot to turn them off.

Make sure you use hearing protection. I had something called Tinnitus (Ringing of the ear) all last winter from an ear infection that wouldn't go away. IT SUCKED!! Kept me up all night. It went away thank God. I cannot imagine living my whole life with ringing sounds in my head!

I bought a pair of these 2 or 3 years ago, and they're still going strong.

I've compared them to other brands, and other than a slightly longer reset time, (About 1 second) they work just as good as the high dollar ones.
