I guess it depends on where the sellers are buying their rifles. I bought a c308 from another seller and when I received it, it had a 2015 tag on it and had been used heavily(dirt and rust). Considering the date, it seemed likely that it was a return to century because they didn't even open the box before shipping it out. They sent me a replacement with a 2015 tag again that looked new but the rail on top was canted so I would never be able to dial in my sights or a red dot reliably. I assume some of these sales are from discounts from Century that might be repaired rifles from returns but I'm not sure. I'd love to get one, I kept my extra mags in case I ever want to get one again.

I've had well over a dozen Century built guns over the years. Their QC has gotten much better. I have had to send an AK back and their customer service was superb...

Mine has been running flawlessly without a single hangup for almost a year now. Going to have a trigger job done on it. Tough as nails, the surplus innards are in great shape. Shot groups have been 2 MOA with Perfecta ammo I got at Wally World for 12 bucks a box. This rifle is an absolute beast, definitely a keeper.

Stop parroting the forums where nobody has first hand experience with anything they talk about. I have three Century Arms rifles - a Npap, a Hungarian parts kit ak, and the c308. All have been flawless with great fit and finish. The c308 at this price is a deal.

Two things regarding the hard spring. 1) Everyone I know who has complained about the hard pull (including myself) was pulling back the charging handle with their knuckles up, like you are doing a reverse punch. I found out it was ment to pull back with you hand gripping the handle from underneath, almost as if you were doing a rep with a dumbell. Instead of doing all the labor with your left tricep you were spreading the task over your entire arm and being the angle also changed you were also pressing down against the gun forward with your right hand spreading the workload even further. Pushing and pulling simultaneously. 2) Replacing the charging handle with an "extended" version cut the perceived effort in half on top of number 1.

i rather save a little bit more and get the PTR 308 BUT THIS CENTURY IS GARBAGE.

I have owned a Century Arms C308 for about three years now and I must say that I truly enjoy the weapon. I put a Bushnell 3-12 x 40 scope on the weapon and now it is a lot heavier, probably more heavy than a lot of shooters would like, since the C308 is not a light gun to begin with. The weapon is not very accurate, as was mentioned, the trigger pull is heavy and the trigger itself is clunky but then again this is a battle rifle. It is not meant to be a long range precision rifle. And at under $600 you will not find another .308 semi-auto rifle at that price point at this time.

One fault that my rifle had was that the recoil spring was so strong that I had trouble pulling the charging handle all the way back. I finally had to pull the charging handle all the way back, lock the action, and just let the rifle sit for a year. That weakened the spring to the point that it was easier to pull handle back.

So would I recommend this gun? Yes, as long as the new owner is willing to accept the C308 with all of its shortcomings. But this rifle is probably not the best for a new shooter.

I owned one of these and the fit, finish, and function were all great.. I highly doubt you have ever handled either a C308 or a PTR so you shouldn't be passing judgment based on forum trolling.

Honestly though I had a C308 but now I own a AR-10 and would never turn back. Nothing wrong with the firearm (or the PTR) but ergonomically it isn't the greatest if you are under 6 feet and is heavy as crap for a battle rifle. This is a beast of a gun and feels like it was made for mini giants. Just my opinion mind you.

For sure PTR is better. However, I think people get the C308 confused with the old CETME. This C308 actually uses a PTR receiver and barrel, I believe. This is a different creature than the CETME. Mine has ran great. Not one malfunction. Wish it was more accurate though.
