I ordered one of these and the top tube where the charging assembly is located was cracked. The metal was straight torn above the charging handle area. It was brand new from Century. Also, the welds were not solid and had pin holes in them. I refused transfer at my FFL and sent it back. He said he couldn't believe they would send that out the door like that. This makes 4 guns from Century that had issues. 1 Crooked sight, 1 jamomatics, 1 key holing barrel... I rolled the dice again on a Century gun and lost. Zero for 4. Never again.

All- Thanks for the feedback on this weapon; I appreciate the honest input from everybody. I'm going to hold off for now, but not due to any negative reviews...... I just shelled out a chunk of $ for a scuba trip to the Caymans. If it weren't for that, I'd go ahead and buy this rifle. I'm sure there will be another sale on these soon and I'll scarf one up a few months down the road. Thanks, again.

Uladz,

You are misinformed, or you have an older CETME, not a new C308.

This new Century C308 is a PTR contract build, utilizing a PTR receiver, PTR trigger group, and HK Navy style grip.. If you owned one, you would notice immeduately the safety / fire selectir is not CETME style.

MrGunsnGear has a review , start at the 7:40 mark if you do not believe my post
Many prople on the gun forums have bought these and have been extremely pleased
Being built by PTR has improved them alot. Why spend double anymore.....

PTRs are way overpriced in this market (young company) and they took the work
under contract from Century (60 year behemoth company). Some speculate to stay
afloat in this market since they cant absorb lower sale price points

Okay, if you are talking about the lower plastic trigger group housing then yes it's made by PTR, cost $30 :). The trigger group is not PTR, I know it for the fact because I was trying to put in PTR trigger group there instead of POS CETME trigger and it wouldn't work with the original safety selector because this safety selector works only with CETME trigger groups. Unless they changed something recently in production it's the same, I've got my rifle last year. The whole upper part is built out of CETME surplus parts. Now, it's possible that I've got a lemon and other C308 rifles run just fine, I don't argue about this, but I'm talking from my own experience.

I quote .....

"PTR makes the stamped and welded (like an AK-47) receiver, which accepts the very inexpensive
— surplus mags in good condition are still widely available from $3.50 to $7 or so — G3 "magazines.

PTR also manufactures the polymer trigger housing and grip unit.

The 18″ barrel with U.S. .30-cal standard, 5/8×24 muzzle threading is also manufactured by PTR. "

You are wrong and clearly do not know WTF you're talking about.

Many people on AKFiles own one without any issues. I own one as well, and the fit and finish is great and it's been very reliable.

Or I'm just funneling my frustration from my own experience with this rifle :). The only reason to buy this rifle is its super low price these days. I happy to hear that over people are happy with C308, not in my case. And is not only one HK91 style rifle I have so I can objectively compare the build quality and functionality between different variants.

My best friend has c-308 it's a good accurate gun within 200 yards but heavy as hell. I held a ptr91 this past weekend at gun show and just is a better built gun. But for the price the c-308 is now hell I may buy one .

PA-10 Gen 2 under $500?

He is referring to the current daily deal combination of these two items I think: http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-gen2-pa10-308-complete-classic-lower-receiver-77932912.html... and also http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-pa10-18-mid-length-nitride-308-win-1-10-upper-with-bcg-and-charging-handle-516445313.html...
So a complete lower and then a complete upper w/ bcg & charging handle. Currently that makes it $460 I believe.

That combination features no magazines but everything else necessary is there. I use 25 and 20 rounders in my AR-10. Great for barrier penetrating through cars and such. It's a true battle rifle but a little bit bulkier than the C308. Luckily the AR-10 platform can borrow spare parts from your AR-15/M4/AR16 platforms so it is more convenient in the long term. The magazines are found very easily as well. I would suggest Magpul AR-10 latest gen magazines when on sale.

The C308 is a great plinker/hunting rifle for short to intermediate range. Go for the AR-10 platform for all of that plus being a great battle rifle for SHTF as well. If it was $400 out the door I would buy a C308 or two just for fun though.

Why would anyone buy this instead of a PA10 Gen2 for $460 I have no idea....

I do agree that it's a better choice for accuracy over distance.

However, the HK clones have the benefit of an endless supply of parts and magazines
available inexpensively, VS a proprietary Palmetto State Armory rifle. That's where this
is a better choice for long term options and parts. 7 Million HK G3 rifles in use globally NOT
including the civilian variants. That's alot of parts.....even if the internals are not HK, the rest is HK cloned.

Some people like the HK style???

I would agree, except that the only person that would buy this would do so on the basis of cost. Most HK fans would opt for a PTR, which is around double the cost.

Have one in black. Zero malfunctions for me.....have only run cheap tula through it. Haven't used the 5rd mag, only the 2 20rds

This is the worst built hk91 clone I have ever seen in my life. Real POS, from used and bended parts to horribly welded pieces. Cycling in unreliable, bcg gets stuck, I only had problems with this one. Get PTR91 instead!

I realize opinions are subjective. I'm an HK fanatic, and this isn't the old CETME turd. This is in fact a vastly improved PTR receiver on these rifles , and overall MUCH improved rifle for nearly half of what a PTR runs when the Rebate was active. The only "Bad weld" is the rear sight which just isn't very aesthetically perfected. The rifle itself is flawless and isn't much different then a PTR91 these days. I own HK91's as well, for the record. These are an incredible buy for the price.

Put one in your hands before blindly listening to purists hate on it. Rail on the top is very useful, and the paddle mag release isn't on these, but it's never been necessary for the 7 Million HK G3 rifles in the field in military use globally either.

For those new to these rifles, the biggest "Pro" so to speak for these rifles, is the inexpensive plethora of German military magazines that run $1.50 for 20 round metal mags to $3 a pop these days. Bought a bunch Dec 2016 for $1.50 a pop. Some were brand new.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the receiver is not PTR, the only PTR part on it is the trigger pack housing, i.e. the lower, which is a plastic one. Almost everything else is reused CETME parts put together. The trigger pack is CETME (with horrible trigger pull and creep, I ended up replacing it with HK modified trigger pack), even the safety selector is re-welded CETME to fit into PTR housing because CETME has a different safe/fire angle :). You are correct, the worst of all is the rear sight weld, but it's not the one. I have J.D.L. built HK91 clone, several PTR built and I was stupid enough to buy this C308 thinking that it's worth trying for the price. Well, it is not, the time I spent trying to get it running smoothly and the money I put into it is not worth it by far. Sorry for funneling my frustration with this rifle guys, but really, you get what you pay for.

Dang- I hate to hear that, this rifle had gotten my attention & I was looking at ordering one........ until now. Thanks for the heads up!

Best looking version of this rifle I've seen yet. It sure is weird and interesting how the previous presidential administration applied executive orders to firearms. This rifle may have an American made barrel and receiver, but the design isn't special. It's still a copy of a widely used military service rifle in many other countries.
