What drives you to say they are crappy? If your not happy return it.... How did you position the back up red dot? Unless on a shotgun or pistol, these are typically mounted on top of a primary sight or off on a 45% cant.
Yes, they must be mounted in a very direct line of sight fashion, true to bore line. You might find that a simple 1/2 riser does wonders. As the "other" common red dot sub $100 and backed for life... Has at least a full inch riser for the AR, but when used on a Daewoo DR200 rail, it's the only one I've found to co-witness to the wonderful iron sights on that rifle! Sighted in, in less than 60 seconds! Moved it to the tip of the front post, already sighted in, and now I has a CQB/LR red dot for $75! Who'd of thunk it.... Point is, it's directly in my cheek weld and direct line of sight. Burris is also Steiner... They have a customer service second to none (in my opinion) had my "loose turret" XTR II (used) back to me, rebuilt and tested, in two weeks. I can't complain about that!
They even shipped and invoice billed a frustrated neighbor for me, when his "other brand scope" was wonky on a .17 HMR! That company tried to argue the return time frame... I said, it just got mounted, it was a Christmas gift. Either take it back or get reported to not hold zero on a .17HMR, when its sold as a high power deer rifle optic. Point being, if your unhappy.. Give them a reason to make you happy! Yes.. It turned into a credit etc, so he got a decent pair of eyes to leave in his truck. But he got something! Outside of their policy. Of course, you won't have that issue with Burris!
I don't work for them, I just got tired of dealing with other companies not making it easy to return or repair an item, and they really stepped up their quality!!!
I hope this might help you to find a happy solution.

Folks, don't forget to check with Burris for mil/LE pricing. I was directed to proforceonline.com registered with them... They honored the deal in house!
$302 for the 5x and FF3, shipped together after emailing them the filled out form... That the nice lady sent me in a pdf... While I was there, picked up a 34mm PEPR and a SW MP Plate for the FF3, that yes.. Has the detachable clamp base. Was fedex'd that day (fri) and will be here Tue... In a few hours! Sure.. I believe I paid $12 for shipping. No tax (out of state) and I don't have to wait on the...if they don't run out, mail in rebate!
Most manufactures have mil/LE pricing.. If not, I've found them to be willing to create some form of discount.
Another place to check anything Burris is Natchez, they are the only authorized dealer of Burris blems! And they carry the same full warranty! I saved about $500 on a high end XTR III FFP... Guy walked back and looked it over, said he wasn't seeing anything other than one small, nick in the paint. Hope this helps anyone eligible.. They also knocked off something for me being Mil/LE..
Don't forget that salesmen often have a discount they can apply.. Be nice, and ask.

These Burris Sights are very crappy. I bought one when there was a nice MIR so my final price was about $110. This sight is not even worth $100 so please save your money and get something with better quality. The viewing angle is very limited so it is very hard to aim using it. If you had to use it under stress you would probably not be able to get even a crappy sight picture.
