Honestly, this is all most Buck knives are worth. They use average to low quality steel.

The only reason they charge more for some of them is because they know old timers and boomers love them for some reason.

I woke to a similar Buck Stockman under the Christmas tree when I was 12. Great first knife for a kid, but this is the Chinese made version in softer 420J2 stainless steel. Nothing wrong with that for $15, and great for a kid to learn to sharpen on, but there is a USA made version in 420hc for about 3x the price. Buck does truly wonderful heat treatments on their 420hc stainless steel.

Got mine on Christmas too as a kid. I also got an H&R 410 that year. To this day that 410
and knife was the greatest presents I ever got for Christmas. Alot of squirrels and rabbits made it to the table.

Haha! I got the same H&R single shot but in 20 gauge for twelfth birthday. There've been many a day since then I'd rather have spent in the field with that little shotgun and a Buck Stockman. Heck, you can probably buy a kid an H&R 410 and a Stockman for half the price of the latest Xbox. Buy him a fishing pole and a football with the savings.

a 410, Stockman, fishing pole, and football, for a kid (instead of a smart phone or xbox). Most hated parent ever!
