M16 Lightweight Bolt Carrier Group 5.56x45mm TiN
Cartridge: 5.56 mm NATO
Finish: Titanium Nitride
Designed for Lightweight, Low-Recoil Rifles
The Brownells M16 Lightweight Bolt Carrier Group is purpose-built for AR-15 owners looking to improve aspects of their rifle with a simple component swap, eliminating the need for major component replacement or amateur gunsmithing work.
The Brownells M16 Lightweight Bolt Carrier Group is machined from 8620 tool steel and features a heavy-duty bolt made using 9310 tool steel, which is then magnetic-particle inspected to ensure quality. The bolt is light enough to reduce the overall weight of a lightweight AR build, and the lightness of the entire assembly also reduces the felt recoil of any AR-style firearm.
- Available with nickel-boron, titanium-nitride or nitride finishes
- Weighs 8.2 ounces
- Compatible with AR-15s chambered in 5.56 NATO, .223 Rem., 300 Blackout and .204 Ruger
The Brownells M16 Lightweight Bolt Carrier Group ships completely assembled and features the necessary black insert and O-ring around the extractor, as well as a torqued and staked gas key.

Still comes out to $180 after Tax+Shipping. Idaho, 1-13-2021. No Deal.
I have this bcg. Its good quality and well worth the $100 buks. Ive ran it in my 10.5 and 7.5" pistols with no problems. Ive even ran it dry just to test it out and still no problems. Just incase anybody was wondering.
did you need to change buffer weight or do you run it with an adjustable gas block?
I have these in both nitride and Ni-B versions. I kept the standard power buffer spring to avoid issues stripping a round, therefore I also kept the standard buffer to prevent bounce because I know the assembly is now moving forward a little faster. Yes, you DEFINITELY do want adjustable gas or the carrier is going to move back way too fast. I use blocks from superlative and odin. Both work incredibly well. It takes much less gas to operate this combo, so everything stays much cleaner. Combined with a good comp/brake it massively reduces recoil and muzzle rise. Hope this helps
Ordered, installed and ran like a champ. Does what it's intended to do. Recoil was definitely reduced enough to see and feel a difference. Would buy again.
I haven’t used it yet, but just got the NiB version, looks very good to me. I’m not sure, but I think I remember reading that these are the same as cryptic coatings.
I’ll be trying it out sometime soon (I hope) and will report back if I get to it and remember.
But just from looking at it, the bolt is marked MP, both the carrier and bolt are the superior of the common steels, they are about as light as the lightest steel carriers, and it looks very good.
8.2 ounces, if I recall correctly.
Awesome. I have the standard spring and gas block. Let me know if any modifications are required.
Thinking of getting one of these but nickel boron. Anyone have any experience with theese?
shopping for low mass BCG also and this one is on the list
also does any one have any experience with the 3gun aluminum BCG? I think it's only 5oz or 6oz! but aluminum?
ended up with the nitride and been using it heavily for past 6months or so in a pistol, it runs great! was surprised that the weight difference was noticeable, barely, but still noticeable...
Aluminum BCG's will wear out rapidly compared to steel.
It's a compromise that competitors will accept in order to save weight.
It was in stock a few min ago and I added to cart and refreshed page and boom.. gone. Darn.
