I would say avoid this seller at all costs, but it looks like he already took his site down. Still... in case he pops back up.
Placed an order 3 weeks ago (site claims no lead times, immediate shipping), heard back once saying order would ship that first weekend at the latest and then the seller went completely radio silent. Had to open a claim with my payment processor and now have to wait for that to go through in order to get my money back.
Doesn't respond to emails / doesn't answer phone.

Just a Plate order may be different than my order, but it took 4 months for me, after which I called and asked if my carrier/pouches/belt were lost in the system, and they said no.... BUT they would send it out today with their fastest shipping and it would be there in two weeks. Supposedly had something to do with hurricane damaging 95% of shipment a while back, so I have a bit of grace, but they just didn’t communicate it. No apology, just acted like it was normal. Not trashing them, but I’ve read many massive delay stories for complicated orders without them communicating, so I probably won’t go back to them. That being said, can’t wait to get my $hit!

This was not our company...we are BuyAR500BodyArmor.com....Not AR500Armor.com...we have never had an order take months, nor have you ever ordered with us.

I may have misread the company on the deals page, or intended to direct my comment towards the product company itself not buyAR500BodyArmor.com. Either way, My apologies to them. Just wanted to clarify, as my comment could be confused. I’ve heard great things about buyAR500bodyarmor.com. I wasn’t able to delete or edit my comment for some reason. But have reached out to gun.deals to do so.

Great value only thing negative i can say is I wish it had a bit better spall coating. Ordered and only took two weeks most of that with USPS. 5 stars on service and quality though!

This is why you shouldn't buy steel body armor. You're just asking for fragments to hit you in the neck, face, crotch, and/or legs if you ever have to use it. There's a reason this stuff is so cheap compared to NIJ certified ceramic armor like Hesco. Buy real plates that will actually protect you and not be a liability. Is the price difference really worth your life?

Yeah but heres the thing. 99% of folks buying these will NEVER have to wear them. If by slight chance they ever did, say due to an active shooter in the neighborhood, etc, then even wearing it and being at risk of actually being shot in a vital area is even smaller. Its more of a "peace of mind" type thing vs being in an active war scenario, working the streets as a police officer, or even working as armed security. Anyone who wears body armor daily for war or work, will buy much more effective and protective body armor.
Add actual risk potential, the chance of "fragmentation", the actual risk of being shot at, and then the chance of that shot hitting your plates, etc and it almost becomes nill... So in my opinion, these plates are just fine for the average citizen in the super rare case its actually needed.
As always this is my personal opinion and you have yours, I will respect your opinion and I ask you do the same.

Just a friendly heads up. I bought a plate carrier, belt, and plates from them in early November. I just received my plates and they said it's gonna be another month before I recieve my plate carrier and belt. Go figure the two things with "no lead time" is gonna take 4 months to come in. Might just say screw it and get a plate carrier somewhere else

Same experience. Stay away from these guys, I ordered a carrier pack 11-2-20 and I'm still waiting for pieces of it. Terrible customer service.

We do not sell carrier packs either. Again I believe you guys have us mistaken for another company. Our oldest orders are sitting at three days, which will all be shipping out tomorrow. Please call us at 1-888-716-4525 for more information. Most of customers can speak for our quick shipping.

sounds like you all should change your name to seperate your company from the other. Im certain your probably losing alot of business because of this. Why youd choose such a close name to the other in the first place wasnt a good decision for sure. Especially reading all the negative comments and reviews about the other company. So yeah, Id change my business name in this situation.

So only plates that are certified by the government are worth buying? Yeah okay. Since when does the government know what's best for you. Maybe you should let them make all of your decisions for you.

Mr.Beachbum, Not sure where your getting your information but our steel is far from "Chinese Scrap metal" Our Steel is 100% American forged and certified. Additionally our armor is independently tested and rated in accordance with NIJ standards, Just like most other AR500 Body Armor companies. Out of curiosity, Have you even placed and order with us or handled our product?

Independently tested is not the same as certified. Never buy armor that isn't properly certified. And never buy steel. It doesn't matter what BS these companies feed you about buildup coats, spalling and bullet fragmentation are deadly. The bullet has to go somewhere. With steel armor it just goes into your neck and face.

Only buy NIJ certified ceramics, or you're just wasting your money.

Thanks rdxj. Good intentions don't translate into proven results. Which is exactly what NIJ CERTIFICATION does. "rated in accordance to NIJ standards" is the equivalent of calling "Natural" food "Organic". It's just marketing terminology to sound legitimate but the fact of the matter is that NIJ has not given your armor any certifications has it? Please list the armor of yours that is on the NIJ certification list: https://cjtec.org/compliance-testing-program/compliant-product-lists/

If not, I don't give a damn who you are or that you were in the military. If you have submitted gear to be tested I commend you and wish you luck. However for anyone reading this, never trust your LIFE with armor that hasn't FINISHED the process and has become OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED.

I took your comments into consideration before I made my purchase. But while researching I found that all these independent companies utilize the same exact testing methods as NIJ. If these other companies are doing the same exact testing but lets say for 10x cheaper then why does NIJ certification matter? At the end of the day I'm satisfied with my purchase and have no doubt these plates will do what they need to do. NIJ is not the all mighty decider of quality armor...

CERTIFIED VS. COMPLIANT
What does Certified vs. Compliant mean to me?

Beware of online body armor companies that do not clearly say their products are Certified by the NIJ; many online retailers will trick you with their wording and sell you Chinese compliant products

How do you know when you’re buying US Government Certified body armor by the National Institute of Justice? Simply look for the NIJ “Listed Model” stamp on the outside of the ballistics that looks like:

All armor models manufactured after March 1, 2017, must carry this mark on the label to be listed on the NIJ Compliant Products List. The NIJ develops the performance requirements for ballistic body armor and partners with labs nationwide to test armor products; successfully passing allows a manufacturer to sell their body armor as Certified.

However, the majority of body armor sold online as of March 2019 is "compliant" and many online body armor retailers advertise their products with confusing wording and are not Certified.

These companies may have completed a lower level of ballistic body armor testing and are not subject to ongoing Government oversight.

Several of these companies claim you will have a “safe life” or keep your “bullet safe” but the reality is they are selling Chinese made non US Govt. NIJ Certified products.

Law enforcement are typically required to wear NIJ Certified body armor to ensure it fully meets the current standards set forth by the National Institute of Justice

ONLY BUY NIJ “LISTED MODEL” LOGO products

Purchasing body armor that is US Government NIJ Certified could mean the difference between life and death if the unthinkable happens. Non-certified body armor is not subject to Government oversight and places an unfair risk on the buyer. An NIJ Certified product is important for three reasons:

To protect buyers and ensure they are getting the protection they expect
To protect the validity of the standard
To qualify for grant funding, which many agencies use to purchase ballistic vests
Some armor makers tout their products as fully compliant but do only partial testing or test to an outdated standard, which would not earn certification and the logo.

Reputable armor makers partner with NIJ-certified testing labs to make sure their products meet the NIJ standard, currently 0101.06. Many non-certified body armor products are tested at lower standards and are classified as compliant.

WHAT IS THE NIJ CERTIFICATION PROCESS AND WHY SHOULD I VALUE IT OVER CHEAPER PRODUCTS

Body armor must meet certain performance standards to earn certification. The NIJ test plan must be performed by a laboratory certified by the NIJ. The key steps to testing include:

Technicians photograph and weigh the armor samples and inspect them for workmanship.
The ballistic armor inserts are then subjected to thermal conditioning with a range of extreme temperatures and humidity, then re-inspected.
The armor plates are dropped on concrete and submerged in water.
The plates are then mounted on clay for two different types of shot testing: backface deformation and ballistic limit. Backface deformation is the dent caused by a bullet on the inside of the armor, against the wearer’s body. The ballistic limit test, or V50, determines at what velocity a bullet will fully penetrate the armor.
The NIJ prescribes at what angle, distance and velocity the plates must be shot, using Mann barrels for greater precision. At a minimum, the NIJ requirements specify defense against certain projectiles, most of which are faster than what police are likely to encounter.

CONCLUSION ON CERTIFIED BODY ARMOR

Once testing is complete, depending on results, the lab sends an example of an un-shot and a shot plate to the NIJ so their technicians can review the report and verify the findings. Armor that meets all the standards is then granted use of the NIJ “Listed Model” Logo and included in the Compliant Products List online.

The NIJ standards are exacting and not easily met, and for good reason. Make sure any armor you consider is on the NIJ Compliant Products List and has the NIJ “Listed Model” logo on the label.

Ah like the government that tells me I'm not worthy of a ccw? Or the government that did nothing to investigate voter fraud or servers setup in someone's bathroom closet that government? Do you trust the post office more than fedex? I can go on and on but never thought I would have to on a firearm related website

I don’t know about everyone else but the coating isn’t that bad I bought One for testing and did exactly what it needed to held up very well especially for the price I had doubts about it so I called and Dylan explained everything to me will definitely be buying again.

Thank you for sharing. What exactly did Dylan say about protection against flying shrapnel? How adequate is this protection on these plates? We know the plates will protect against bullets. But will using them hurt you even more?

Since these are steel plates, i am quite concerned about projectile fragmentation. I know the plates are covered with an anti-frag material, but this does not eliminate the fragmentation completely. Getting a piece of lead shrapnel into your chin is dangerous.

1 vote
1 vote

The anti-frag material on them is NOT as thick or as sturdy feeling as ar500armor.com's basic coating.... Almost feels like it got coated with a couple layers of Flex-Seal

1 vote
1 vote

That's exactly what i am talking about. I have no first-hand experience with this product. How safe is it to use in the field without making expensive modifications? One of the AR500 promotional videos shows a thick layer of foam-like material that traps shrapnel like a pocket or a purse. It is my understanding that this product has no such layer. Still worth investing in? Why?

I would say buy once, cry once... Spend the extra few bucks and buy from ar500armor.com instead of this.

Received my order the other day. They seem to be of decent quality, but I don't think they are as high quality as plates from ar500armor.com. If you absolutely have to pinch those pennies though, these do feel like they will perform as advertised, especially if you combine them with a good deal on a carrier on a different site like lapg.com.

I will say though... quick, free shipping and there was no months long backlog for the order. I know that has been one major issue with ar500armor.com lately is that lead time.

Received my plates today and I am impressed with the build quality. If your hesitant about purchasing this armor like I was don't be. They also threw in the magnet which is a nice piece. It is a rare earth magnet so it is very strong and they also applied a coating to it as well. I would most certainly purchase from this company again!!!

My apologies, I gave this a thumbs down in error. When I went to the link it took me to the package, but the price was $129, not the advertised $117. I came back to this page and realized I needed to add the 10% coupon to get the $117 price. It did indeed apply correctly and drop the price to $117. Again, my apology for the error.
