About the AR500 plates, that's what I have and you're right , heavy, but any hard armor in this price range probably is. The level III AR500 is supposed to stop the 5.56 penetrator round too and .308 ball. I think you'll get about as much for your money as you can. The light stuff is for the light stuff. That just don't give me no warm fuzzy feeling! But, I don't know nothin...!

Botach took my money and never shipped me anything. They just kept it and will not respond to my emails or voicemails.

Did you dispute the credit card transaction and get your money back?

This is a scam. I tried to order 3 of these for me and my family. The emailed me and said I had to provide the CC info as well as a copy of my State ID or Drivers LIC to them by email because it is a large order. Yeah, like Im going to freely give that information on a non secured site. Can you say ID theft? Total BS! So the guy tells me I can place 3 seperate orders and not have to provide my ID. So no deal @ $129. He told me even If I only order 2 I still have to supply my info. GO POUND SAND!!!!!

Just ordered 2, no problem at all. Just wondering if you live some place with all the crazy gun laws, etc. that might affect buying these? Also, someone had asked who makes these. I saw Kley-Zion listed on one of the Battle Steel armor ads on Botach, but that's all I could find about maker.

www.kleyzion.com... takes you to Botach's website and I found a post online (from a random keyboard warrior) that says they are sister companies but I could not verify that myself. They probably have umpteen different branded in house manufacturers under their roof all incorporated separately so they can bid against themselves on DOD contracts.

Yeh, meant to email Botach to ask for more info. I ordered 2 of these to keep at home for small females. Read recently that kevlar is the only soft armor that is not affected by heat or anything else, almost. But, go to AR500 Armor website and watch the video showing deformation of ballistic clay with soft armor. Looks about like being hit with a hammer in the chest. Need something that can take that rather than your chest I'm thinking. What do you think?

The problem with kevlar is it ages (breaks down) over time due to sweating and moisture. If you aren't using it all the time like a cop would on hot summer days or in the rain it shouldn't matter but like you said it does not spread the force of the blow but simply catches the bullet. This might work better and would provide stab resistance too. I'm still on the fence about ordering this for a spare carrier at home. Still looking for something to carry in my car though.

Yep,nothing's perfect. It just occurred to me ,just how hot does it get in the trucks when this stuff is transported cross country this time of year?! Hot enough to affect it ? I've got the AR500 Armour steel plates vest in my car behind the seat. Heavy, $65/plate with their $65 kevlar panel in front for spall. Waste of money and time? Maybe, but for me it's sorta the "better to have it and not need it than..." thing. Who knows?!
Think these are a good deal for stay at home protection. Would think a thief or home invasion type would be pistol toting . Outside the home, I kinda like some rifle stopping ability. But , I don't know nothin bout nothin so!

I agree most home invasions would be pistol caliber type situations and many do carry rifles in their cars but I own steel plates and I could not imagine getting them on super quick as they are so heavy (jumping out of the car, reaching in the backseat / trunk and putting them on, grabbing a weapon, etc) They are okay once you get them situated but I could see someone knocking themselves silly if they tried to throw them on in a panic. In my mind I want some armor in my car as part of a 'get home bag' (thus light) and would think if Billy Bob was mad at something that happened in traffic and decided pulling his hunting rifle was the proper course of action he would not me the chance to put on any armor regardless of the protection level. I guess we all foresee all types of situations.

I think in the cab of the truck would get too hot for this type of armor but I have a stainless steel truck box behind my cab that barely gets above ambient temperature.

As I said, I don't know nothin bout nothin! I think we all go fishing with the net and try to make a best guess. But maybe having soft and hard armor on board and at home is not a bad idea. I like having options. There is a thread I saw on Calguns.net titled "Body Armor:The Good,The Bad,And the Ugly" that a guy that makes armor gives his opinions on what works ,what doesn't.He seemed to like woven kevlar for soft and steel for hard. Maybe he knows. My plan is to do all I can to avoid ever having to use this stuff or a weapon.Never thought I would ever have to even think about this . Way too many crazy and/or "medicated" and/or just plain mean folks out and about these days. I try to stay as far away as I can from them on the road and otherwise. Folks can avoid a whole lot of mess with just a little common courtesy and respect. And you can get dead real fast without it. Nuff
of that. Anyway ,my order from Botach has shipped and I'll post a not so expert opinion when it comes.

Why would you pay for a Kevlar anti-spall panel when you could just have your plates PAXCON coated?

I did the same thing. I ordered steel plates that had a "base coat" (not enough for to stop fragmentation) which I did not know what that meant at the time due to never using steel before and bought spall blockers afterwards.

I already had the kevlar and the steel with the light paxcon coating so trying to make do, but what you said would be the way to go for most folks.

Sounds more like someone is sour they overpaid for their armor.

The argument of "how much is your life worth" is overused and typically brought up to justify spending more money over a comparable product (not saying this is comparable though). Should you buy level II, why not level IIIA, maybe III, then might as well get IV, huh? Why stop there, get a Kevlar helmet with a IIIA facemask to boot. Are you clothes flame retardant? Why don’t you hire private security to make random checks on your house with the money you spend on internet and TV, is your life really worth Dancing With The Stars or cat videos on youtube? Do you drive the world’s safest car? Are you up to date on your shots and medical checkups or paying for the most state of the art screenings? LOL

I was really close to ordering this to keep in my trunk however after some research I discovered that polyethylene loses it effectiveness when it reaches temps of 150+ degrees which is easy to do in the south on a sunny day. Could not find ANY info on the manufacturer though.

Is this hard or soft armor? It is listed as IIIA however the photos look like it is thin steel plates vacuumed sealed or something. The post says it is "lightweight Polyyethylene matieals" but I have never heard of that (regardless of the misspellings) in body armor. $140 seems like a good deal shipped for a single set though.

Soft. Pistol rated [3a] is almost always soft armor, from what I've seen. Seems like it requires hard plates to stand up to rifle caliber rounds, & besides, the blunt force trauma from a rifle round might kill you even if soft armor *did* prevent penetration, so you'd want a hard plate for rifle rated service anyway.
