Description

Сталь. This is the Russian word for steel, and the folks who work at Russia’s historic Barnaul Cartridge Plant must use it quite often. That’s because Barnaul ammunition is designed to save shooters a lot of money by substituting steel in components which traditionally contain copper.
This 9mm cartridge has the lightweight 115 grain bullet, and it’s loaded a little hotter than usual as evidenced by its 1,329 fps muzzle velocity. The FMJ bullet’s core is made out of solid lead. Barnaul uses a bi-metal jacket, which is mostly made of soft steel with a copper wash exterior. It won’t harm your firearm’s barrel, but it is magnetic!
Barnaul loads steel cases instead of brass ones. On the plus side, steel cases make ammunition noticeably less expensive. You can also count on Barnaul’s steel cases to feed and extract freely in a semi-automatic, as they’re coated with friction-reducing lacquer which won’t burn off to excessively foul a firearm’s action. On the downside, steel cases do let more carbon fouling enter the action, and they are also not reloadable.
This ammo has Berdan primers. They’re a little cheaper to manufacture on Barnaul’s end, though they function just like Boxer primers as far as ignition is concerned. These primers are non-corrosive – they don’t require you to take special steps while cleaning in order to preserve your firearm.
