The Baofeng UV-5R V2+ is the latest 2016 UV-5R style radio from Baofeng. The transceiver is a micro-miniature multi-band FM transceiver with extensive receive frequency coverage, providing local-area two-way amateur communications along with unmatched monitoring capability. One of the primary advantages of the UV-5R V2+ over the UV-5RA and older models is the UV-5R V2+'s inherent compatibility with Baofeng 7.4V 3800mah and 3600mah extended batteries. This feature really separates the UV-5R V2+ into a class of its own able to perform under heavy use for several hours longer than its predecessors.

Yes, an FCC license is required to transmit on certain frequencies that the radio is capable of transmitting on in the USA.

What type of HAM radio licenses are there, and what is required to get a HAM radio license?
There are currently 3 levels of Amateur licenses.
The Entry level or "Technician Class" License simply requires passing a very basic and simple 35 questions multiple choice test.
The upper level "General" & "Extra" class licenses require additional multiple-choice written tests each

Too bad it doesn't also come with the extended antenna, that's pretty much the go-to uv5r setup anyway.

But another nice thing about this battery is there's a plug hole for a vehicle cigarette lighter cable so you don't even use any battery while in the car. Like most uv5r accessories its cheap too, like $6 on ebay/amazon.
