capitolwon I was not aware that these were still ham capable I thought they were making them alot harder to buy or discontinuing them all together. thank you for pointing this out.
Cool little device, but much better than the walkie-talkies at Walmart. Technically you need a HAM radio license to use push to talk on these which is 15 bux and a test, but in an emergency anyone can speak. They can pull in FM radio unencrypted police, fire, NOAA weather, and local repeaters that can help keep you in communication with others if cell phones go down.
I had one of these. If you have bad hearing or plan using it in a car or around other noise, don't waste your time. The speaker is like 100 milliwatts.
