Just picked one up! There isn't any compact 1911 for under 400$ so this is pretty much a steal since it's never been this low.
Make sure you replace the recoil assembly!
I replaced mine with the Kimber assembly for 51$
Part number #4000465
These are fantastic pistols for this price.
You really have no idea what steel most guns made inside the country are either, and many USA made 1911s cannot even make one magazine without an issue
These guns will work until they don't, sounds silly but true. The gent who said pot metal, hit it on the head, this is not forged or milled steel, or cast from a solit Bilett. It might just snap off a safety or mag release under the right conditions. There is no QC, so yu don't really evenknow what the gun is made from. There is steel like 440C Stainless, athen there is crap that is a wole lot of scrap metal melted together and poured into templates.
We really don't know what the dam thing is made from, so you take your chances. It's entirely possible you can get a good one, but just as likely you get a not so good one.According to the World Steel Association, there are over 3,500 different grades of steel, encompassing unique physical, chemical, and environmental properties. So anything is possible with these guns made out of the Country.
The specs say 4140 steel, so I'm guessing that kind of let's you know. I own four of these ATI 1911's and have never had a fail and love them from the time I open the boxes
As for recoil and brass hitting your forehead, fit an oversize firing pin stop to it, whit a tight radius. $20 and a couple of hours fitting it, and the "felt" recoil is substantially reduced, and the brass lands where it's supposed to.
I own 2 of them, love them both, both are great shooters with hundreds of rounds through them. The mag on one of them sucks, but CM mags work flawlessly. True, they spit brass at your forehead in the beginning, but when you tune the ejector properly, then both eject to 4 o'clock.
They have a redesigned recoil spring that has worked for me flawlessly. Gun is tightly built and yes it can be snappy, but it is a 3"! Both work well for me. Just my 0.02$ FWIW.
And my older one is stamped Rochester, NY
the newer one is stamped Summerville, SC
Interesting change with their warranty policies. Looks like *only* ATI models stamped "American Tactical, Summerville SC" are eligible for warranty service.
I've reached out to Sportsmans Guide to learn if these firearms are stamped "American Tactical, Summerville SC" and will update if/when I hear back.
These guns have had a checkered past, The newer ones have a redone recoil mechanism. There were the same problems with them over and over again on several gun forums with the recoil spring assembly needing to be changed out for a colt defender model. The one they had in there would unscrew and fall apart, also several FTE and FTF problems. If you wanted to spend the time and money. You would eventually be able to get them to run well, but you were looking at another 2-300 bucks in order to do so.
That pretty much negates the savings, and you still have a gun that you can never get your money out of.
Bought one delivered in 4 days from SG. Well worth it's price ! Shot
1 box of ammo(50) and had 1 FTE on first mag nothing else. Ok so
far.
The gun feels snappy for some reason. It's not my favorite gun. I gave it away . they gave it back a month later . but it's a personal choice and it does not work for me.
Does anyone know if this is a good carry option for a 1911 style .45acp? I have heard not too much about ATI
I have one and, while it's a halfway decent gun, I wouldn't want to count on it to save my life. I bought one and then spent a couple of hundred bucks to try to make it stop FTE/FTF, and to stop it from ejecting brass right in my face. Spend a little more and get a Springfield Armory XD mod2 .45 - I did and am much happier.
I recently purchased the ATI Military FS and think its well built and very tightly put together. Better than my other 1911 I got from Rock Island. I swore I would never buy anything ATI again after problems with STG44 and GSG .22 models and glad I tried them again! Note that the STG44 and GSG are from a german company while the 1911's are from the Philippines so different manufactures and is why I gave them another shot and glad I did. Only upgrades i have done are firing pin spring and polishing and 200 rounds no issues yet. For the price you can't beat it to try it out!
It's a $350 Kimber Ultra Carry. Go for it.
SG told me that the 20% off coupon could not be used on Firearms! You can use a free shipping or $10 off.
yes, that's what they told me as well over the phone, but it works on their website. Just to be sure, I used Coupon: SG3484 for $20 off.
You idiots are why these things get cancelled, the codes were working but not supposed to so let's call and ask uhhhderrrr
What? I used it the day firearms were available for sale. I knew they might have forgot to exclude it and so i jumped on it.
Worked fine for me on the 8th of April. Snooze you loose bro.
wrong price and some of the images are a different gun :(
Got mine yesterday shoots good, great deal for the money and shipping was fast from high plains gun.
Deal does not work, link broken. i went to their web site after i googled it, and their site says they do not sell guns online. atachment that comes up when you try to go to the link may be a virus, I dont know, But I do know, the link does not work...
