Description

Electroless Nickel Teflon has continually proven to outperform traditional Anodizing and Phosphate coatings by leaps and bounds! The increased reliability, corrosion resistance and ease of maintenance make this upgrade a no-brainer.

PLEASE NOTE: These uppers are being sold at a discounted rate due to minor imperfection in the base metal. These imperfections are very common but are usually hidden when anodized. Nickel Teflon does not hide them as well. In no way shape or form will these blemishes affect functionality.

Features:

Forged & machined by Cerro Forge (Key Hole)
Machined From mil-spec 7075 T6 forging
M4 feed ramps
Proprietary electroless nickel teflon finish
100% increase in corrosion resistance compared to MIL-A-8625 hard coat anodizing
240% increase in lubricity compared to MIL-A-8625 hard coat anodizing
160% increase in lubricity over hard chrome

Nickel Teflon will buff out and produce polished spots on contact/friction points. When using a clamshell type receiver block, the contact points may cause slight discoloring on the exterior of the receiver. This of course is strictly cosmetic. However, if you’re trying to avoid discoloration then we recommend using a (pin type) receiver vise. The inside diameter for barrel extension is slightly undersized for a tighter fit to the barrel and a more accurate rifle.

Benefits:

- Run it longer and harder - Lubrication optional. If you decide to use lube you won’t notice when it dries up. The natural lubricity of Nickel Teflon has a much lower coefficient of friction than phosphate treated steel with lube applied.

- Lubricity and wear resistance - Lubricity plays an essential role in optimizing wear resistance and longevity. Nickel Teflon has a .05 Coefficient Of Friction (COF), creating a surface more slick than Anodizing, Hard Chrome or even Nickel Boron.

- Longevity - Has a Hardness of Rockwell 54. Guaranteed not to peal or flake

- Ease of maintenance - No scrubbing required. Carbon fouling literally just wipes off with a rag.

- Corrosion resistance - We apply a proprietary Electroless Nickel substrate with a higher than average phosphorus content, giving the coating a barrier that’s practically impenetrable by corrosion.

Can you refer me to the company that coats these for you guys? I'd buy this upper if I could also have my lower the same color. This is a serious inquiry.

Does this comes with a BCG? Picture shows one but I don't see it on the description

Deceptive, to say the least.

No.

Assembled with dust cover and forward assist. No BCG.

Because Nickel Teflon doesn’t hide the very minor imperfections in the base metal like black finishes do. We’re just being very picky

Why are these always blems?

I already have the upper, but would definitely like a lower to match.
Let me know if and when you decide to coat the lowers. Thanks!

What he said! I got two and wish I could afford 10 more! But a matching lower would really be nice!

If I could get a matching lower without having to coat it myself or having it coated hoping the cerakote colors match, I would be very interested for a 6.5 Grendel build I'm working on.

I just ordered my 8th RTB Nickel Teflon upper and have been extremely happy with the others I've purchased to date and expect this one will be no different.

This has become my go-to upper for all new builds that I begin. From AA piston builds for both rifles and pistols, various DI rifle and pistol builds, 300BLK and 9mm AR pistol, and more, these have been a joy to work with (particularly when seating the receiver bushing used with the piston assembly).

In operation I use very very little lubricant. Just a swipe on the carrier contact points and the same on those points in the receiver. I certainly cannot say I've done any torture testing, but 1K range days have certainly needed no more than that.

Clean up after a range session is quick and easy as the carbon crud just slides off with little effort. With a piston gun clean up is a short few wipes with a cloth and done.

It was these receivers that first drew my attention to RTB. I've have since ordered a number of their nickel teflon offering from BCGs to bolts to triggers as well as few sundry other items (barrel, gas blocks, tubes, etc.) and could not be more pleased with the shopping experience (and their customer service). I highly recommend this business.

Ive had mine for a year now. It's an amazing product. The company is top notch to work with and everyone that sees it on my AR build always comments on how good it looks. I was going to paint it but won't anymore because of all the compliments it gets as is.

The description says complete - does this mean it comes with a forward assist and dust cover?

No that was a typo. We had some complete ones a while back but these are stripped.

WTF is up with the comments? Does anyone have anything relevant to this UPPER?

Somehow these replies are for the Sig arm brace. Computers and human error I suppose.

CORRECTION: They are for the Bumpfire Systems stock, my bad. I have followed comments on both.

I've purchased two of these 'blem' units. The only 'blem' that I can find is a slight scratch from the dust cover as it passes the pin retainer lug next to the brass deflector.

Assembly of the carbine went without a hitch (Adams Arms Ultralight piston kit, UL VooDoo BBL, and Evo rail) and it runs peachy. Some scuff marks where the carrier rides the bottom of the receiver and the the piston key tower, but no wear apparent. For anyone building up from an Adams Arms kit, the upper receiver bushing seats very nicely in this upper. A bit of hammering to get it in place (normal), but MUCH easier than the spikes and RRG uppers I've used before. You need a damn sledge hammer to get that thing seated in those.

Almost no lube used at all. Basically lubed the appropriate spots and soft wiped it leaving just a trace of lube. Combined with a piston drive this leaves a seriously clean upper receiver after a range day. And super, super easy to clean out with a microfiber cloth.

Bought another one to build another project. Just waiting (less than patiently) for my back-ordered BBL to come in...

AND I just noticed that the NP3 BCGs are listed on the site but out of stock. Any idea when those will be back in stock? Definitely in for two.

Glad you’re like with the product.

Nickel Teflon BCG’s are almost ready. It’s been a much longer journey than we initially predicted. We spent a ridiculous amount of time working with our plater to develop what we feel is the perfect plating matrix with just the right amount of heat treatment and so forth. Contrary to popular belief, not all Nickel Teflon is the same, or even remotely close for that matter. There are endless combinations of the above mentioned and when you’re trying to perfect it it’s easy to get carried away. Not to mention, every time the process was changed we did real world testing, which involved a minimum of 4,000 rounds.

Our most recent hang up has been finding a manufacturer that can produce a large number of BCG’s to our exact specs. Surprisingly, some very well-known machine shops (that we will not mention) just haven’t met our standards. Mostly it’s been cosmetic issues such as rough machine marks etc. but never the less, a big enough issue for us to reject the product. We refuse to put our name on something that we wouldn’t buy ourselves. However, we’ve recently had outstanding results with Toolcraft and are glad to say that we’ve been sourcing our parts from them. To make a long story short, they should be ready in a few weeks.

Sorry for the drawn out answer. Just felt like we owed an explanation since we’ve been talking about these for a while and are way past our expected release date.

If a letter was released it would spread through the community like wildfire! This guy is full of shit, a whack job. He calls the shop and emails us all the time rambling nonsense. We've tried being nice to him but it's getting out of control.

Great deal as of 1/29/2015. Right To Bear, great people. Just ask a question on this site, and they will answer. I have ordered from them and they are top notch! This stock works. Might require some fine tuning, but well worth it for the "Giggle Factor". Not sure about 'ol boy saying "ATF illegal" maybe thinking about Sig Arm Brace being fired from the shoulder, but I am not a lawyer.

These are now illegal the ATF sent out a letter saying any rapid firing of a weapon is now illegal without a class 3 license. Now everyone is trying to unload these on the unknowning. Don't waste your money!

can you provide a reference for this letter?

I too would like to see the letter statng it is now illegal. There is nothing on their website that reflects that they reversed it

Same here. If there was a letter and you saw it you could give a reference as to where it is. If true and depending on how it is written any semi auto firearm can be fired rapidly so they could be considered illegal.

Would be fun to use for 1-2 times and then would go back to my standard Magpul MOE stock. I don't do magazine dumps with either of my AR's.

The real question is should I get one... Hmm.... Is this something I'll regret not getting? Or just something that sits in my safe?

They are a BLAST! to shoot, everyone who tries mine out at the range loves it, I let them borrow my lower to try it out, they end up getting one.

I purchased this a few months ago for my first AR build. I completed the build the first of January. NO Problems with my "blem." Gun shoots flawlessly. I still haven't found the blem. I am waiting for their nickel teflon bcg to add to my gun. I highly recommend this receiver.

Ordered one for a new Adams Arms ultralight build. Hoping the extra lubricity will help cancel the need for the ultralight carrier. I have several AA builds (some OE and some I built from scratch) and they all have some cycling issues with weaker ammo. Ultralight carriers have solved the issue in all cases, but now I've got a pile of standard VDC AA carriers laying about :D
