I strongly recommend those who have not researched the laws regarding these receiver blanks do so, until that research has been done and understood refrain from commenting on the legal issues.

Briefly...

If you can legally own the fire arm in your area of residence you are allowed to manufacture such a firearm for your own personal use, it does not require an FFL to do so. The firearm may not be manufactured specifically for the purpose of selling or giving to another individual.

No serial number or marking is required but it's recommended unique marking be done in case of theft or loss. If the weapon is sold and it is legal to do so with the original intent of manufacture being personal use, then the lower reciever must be marked.

Using imported parts would likely not apply to an AR build but if it did then the ten imported parts limit would be in play.

NFA regulations apply.

From the ATF website.

"For your information, per provisions of the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968, 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, an unlicensed individual may make a “firearm” as defined in the GCA for his own personal use, but not for sale or distribution.

The GCA, 18 U.S.C. § 921(a)(3), defines the term “firearm” to include the following:

… (A) any weapon (including a starter gun) which will or is designed to or may be readily converted to expel a projectile by the action of an explosive: (B) the frame or receiver of any such weapon; (C) any firearm muffler or silencer; or (D) any destructive device. Such term does not include an antique firearm."

"Individuals manufacturing sporting-type firearms for their own use need not hold Federal Firearms Licenses (FFLs). However, we suggest that the manufacturer at least identify the firearm with a serial number as a safeguard in the event that the firearm is lost or stolen. Also, the firearm should be identified as required in 27 CFR 478.92 if it is sold or otherwise lawfully transferred in the future."

Want to know more look it up.

As for the start-up while there is risk there is risk in any investment. Basically this is an investment and your return if successful, would be four pieces of metal that can be made by your own efforts into a lower receiver.

Steven Jobs, Bill Gates and Amway had similar starts and Enron had a big building.

I was burned on a similar deal with Red Rock bolts. They were trying to raise money to complete their orders. All contact from them seemed legit, but when it came edown to it they shut down. I really hope this works, b/c I'm interested..redRock disappeared and I had to get credit card refunds. Just suggesting to be cautious and save all orders in a separate file. I hope this is legit.

88% with 8 days left on the project, as of 9/8. This looks like the project will meet its funding goal with a day or so to spare (assuming funding continues at the pace it has been setting).

45% funded with 23 days left as of 8/21.

The owner(s) have claimed in the comments that they have already purchased the equipment and will produce and ship the lowers regardless of the funding status:

"If we don't reach goal lowers will still be made. We have already bough a cnc machine and software. We are working on a lease for a new building as we speak." - joe (17 days ago)

Recent comments by the project leader indicate they will begin shipping in "Mid-October to early November".

Just wondering does anyone know anyone who can finish these... Ive watched some youtube videos and its a bit intensive for the backyard builder... Im not set up for this at all...To make IMO a quality build you need a CNC mill. I use a drill press with a mill vice to build AK47/74 lowers but i dont think it would do this... any thoughts?

You must finish them yourself to comply with the law. You can do these with a drill press and an end mill. Just take your time and invest in a jig to make the process easier.

Or try to find a build party. They're pretty common in California, but popping up elsewhere too.

Whoever has the means, order these things by the box load. Then turn them into rifles & make them available and affordable for everyone who believes in this cause. Get them into patriotic, freedom loving, 2nd Amendment believing, "sane" citizen's hands. Our Freedom is at stake every day. Good luck.

Your freedom would be at stake.

Transferring unregulated, self manufactured firearms is a crime. Quickest way to lose yours and your rights to own them is to do so.

Definitely NOT a crime. Not unless you're setting up a business and making them with the primary intent to sell (thinking you 'may' sell them later is perfectly fine). Of course you have to engrave them prior to selling but ABSOLUTELY legal to make and later sell these.

I'm mostly meaning for a time when "regulations" and "rules" don't matter. Or for when I have to be a criminal just for owning a firearm anyway. I'll do things the legal way as long as possible but I and many, many others like me will refuse any attempts at registration or confiscation. Then I'll make decisions on what's morally right by me not legal.

Even if you make them with out the initial "intent to sell" them? Even if you gift them?
News to me.

Hypothetically, if someone gifted or inherited an AK47 with a handmade rivet construction lower that a family member made- and the BATFE said it was perfectly fine to transfer were they wrong?

I dunno. I am unfamiliar with that. Sounds like another gray area which could potentially cost you some money in a court room... Try it out. I'll just buy mine like a law abiding citizen with nothing to hide.

I'm looking forward to hearing the woes of someone who gets pulled over for speeding/other reason and the cop tries running the serial numbers through the system on a rifle that doesn't have any.

Sounds like good times.

You should speak less confidently, less aggressively, and in a different tone when you are posting about areas you are unfamiliar with, lest you keep proving yourself the incorrect & loudmouthed fool

This from the expert on producing "cheap," wrong and loud talk. You should just ask around and read -up a little on transferring home built arms. People have been doing it for along time and you can readily find BATFE clarification statements.

You're projecting again..lol You really are an easy mark.

While you try and post the BATFE's regs on made up shit you say that isn't true, I found a little article for you. It's written in layman's terms so that it will be easier for you to comprehend.

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2012/02/robert-farago/gun-registration-the-80-solution/...

They require a serial number to be transferred legally.

Like I said... Make a point Sport. Looking forward to your BATFE post. Then I'm sure you'll argue the semantics of "should" and "must"...

Where does that refute what I said about gifting or inheritance when produced without the intent to sell?

Look pal. . . there are certainly dumber posters here than aims, but of those trolls who regularly parade their ignorance + mental shortcomingsand opinions he is the loudest. I've read through a number of his posts and it's best just to ignore them and let his anger and misinformation lay. It is as it does. Where do I suggest adding an ignore function or collapse comment option?

I really hope he does get help. . . just ignore him until then.

This whole deal should put into perspective how badly you guys who justified the purchase of $100+ 80% lowers had the wool pulled over your eyes. Straight up FLEECED!!!

I could never understand how you would justify spending more money for an unfinished product than for one that was ready to go... You couldn't make that kinda shit up. I'd read these comments and just be blown away at the total stupidity of the whole situation. Personal satisfaction/under the radar and whole bunch of other bs... and that's fine.. but they shoulda been $20 tops.

Here you have a start up business, and the best way to get started is by high profit, low overhead goods... Meaning milling just-pass-half ass (80%) lowers quickly and selling them for profit. Think of it as half cooked pancakes.

These guys are offering the same thing for under $30 and still turning enough profit to buy equipment to mill more. All you guys that spent $80, $100, $120 and more got ROBBED...

So I hope for the sake of EVOLUTION and LEARNING FROM YOUR MISTAKES, when these guys get up and running, then rasie the prices of their 80% to rapist rates, you ask yourself, "Why would I pay $60, $80 or $100 for something I got for less than $30 and was still able to fund a business?

But until that happens, tell it to me again would ya.... What was that about personal satisfaction? LMAO.

I know your post is a few weeks old but you do realize that this is for four (4) 80% lowers, right? That's only $27.50 each.

That was the point. You're funding a start up business who just bought a mill and has yet to find a place to lease for $27.50 ea... Puts into perspective the fleecing going on by companies already operational when you spend anywhere near $100 on one. Maybe re-read my again. This time a little slower.

As far as your "patriotic" comment above about buying these by the box load and and "getting them into the hands of patriotic, freedom loving, 2nd Amendment believing, "sane" citizen's hands", well Sir, that would be ILLEGAL and would make you and the recipients of these rifles CRIMINALS... As the "loophole" requires that they are intended to be owned (non-transferable) by the sole individual who manufactures them. Alas, another fault in the brilliant concept of unregulated AR's.

So what would be so patriotic about breaking the law when legal, law abiding citizens on the good guy list can get these anytime they desire simply by filling out a 4473 like the rest of us. I do it all the time, and so does anyone else that wants an AR-15. It's the way its done.

So looking at it that way, it reveals the whole 80% scam for what it really is.. A scam. That is unless you're the tin foil hat type who thinks the government is coming for your guns and the only way to keep them from knowing what you have is building 80%ers... Which is is kind of a joke anyway, because if you're a real patriot, and believe in the 2nd Amendment, you WON'T EVER GIVE THEM YOUR GUNS, NOT WITHOUT GIVING THEM YOUR BULLETS OR LIFE FIRST... So either you're a fake ass patriot pussy who'd give them up without a fight, or you're the real deal and wouldn't ever let them have them in the first place... Which in reality is the WHOLE reason the 2nd exists.. Not for hunting and punching paper, but for TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT.

So what difference does it make? Why even bother with an 80%er??? Unless you can't have guns in the first place..

Communication breakdown. I re-read your post but I still don't know why it seems to bother you so much. What's the big deal with investing a little money for an upstart small business? It sounds like a fine idea to me but I can't financially afford that project right now.

Your next few paragraphs are addressed above.

IMO you seem to have a very unusual attitude and opinion about firearms. You have no problem saying that you have guns and support others rights. The instant something comes up about legalities you're all over it. If you have knowledge about legalities, regulations, or code but please make sure it's accurate.

I'm sure you probably think that I'm a gun nut or one of those other descriptive terms our wonderful liberal government or media have labeled us gun owners. To me, I'm just a 38 year old guy that likes guns. I like looking, holding, inspecting, shooting and cleaning. My favorite thing to do is go out to the middle of nowhere and shoot with my wife and young son.

It can all be lost very quickly if gun owners do nothing.

I've funded it for two different orders (4X and 1X+jig) so I hope they also make their mark. A reply by the shop said they would honor if they don't make it (look under 'conversations'. About a week in to the project and they've got about 10% so far. Hope they are getting the word out to the various forums.
