They do good work for the price. QC is their main issue which is why their price is so much lower. Be cautious of installing anything right next to the picatinny gas block, it gets hot.

What is the main concern with the andersons?

As mentioned above, it seems the most common complaint seems to be lack of checks for quality and product leaving the factory with showstopper defects. I'm still waiting on my shipment from KYGUNCO. Since I live out in the sticks, I can inspect and shoot it right away and will report back any issues. I've probably owned 2 dozen or so ARs over the last 20 years ranging from ultra-cheap to $1500+ variants. I've actually never received a unit that fit/finish wasn't solid and didn't work flawlessly out of the box. Those "good ones" are rarely the reviews you see... Mostly the bad ones so it feels like there are a very high percentage of failures.

I am tempted to buy this anderson AR myself. I already have a PSA AR-15 that I built and getting a S&W M&P15 optic ready from smokey mountains & guns from Black Friday with 5 hex mags.

I had an Anderson free-floating upper and it never had a jam, put it on PSA lower.

What's wrong with the Anderson lowers?

Nothing that I know of, and I really haven’t heard anything bad about Anderson guns in general until this comment section, but to be honest I’m not really into budget guns, The reason I had it on a PSA was because my dad gave me a basic M4 for my first AR15 a few years ago when I was 15 or 16, I upgraded it as much as I could and then I bought a Anderson free floating upper, and I never had any trouble with the PSA or the Anderson upper receivers, but I’ve upgraded to a different system since then.

Well, I have made an AR15 out of PSA parts and bought a s&w m&p15 II. I am tempted to get another ar15.

Before making your decision, take a look at radical firearms you might get more for the money and people say in the app comments that they’re goodguns .

Bought one to plink with. I'll get a decent trigger for it and burn up some of the 1000s of rounds I've stockpiled in the last 10 years. Cheapest name-brank AR I've seen is quite a number of years. No tax and free shipping...

Ok, it came in today and, of course, it is sleeting outside. I mean, I love to shoot, but I'm not walking over to my range to shoot in this nastiness so it'll have to wait a couple of days. I assembled it and function tested it with a dummy round. Everything appears to be in working order. It is clearly an inexpensive AR and I'm OK with that. There aren't any burrs, areas with a missing finish, sharp edges, etc. Upper and lower went together with no issue, bolt in/out, charging handle in/out, no scratches, fit and finish is "clean". Barrel inside looks good... Again, nothing WOW, this is like a $2K rifle! I'm not that naive. It does seem well built, though, so I'm pleased with it. I'm not a fan of the trigger, though. It's not what I'd call milspec as it has too much creep but I always replace my AR triggers with 2-stagers regardless of weapon. So far, thumbs up. I'll come back and reply to my thread once I can go outside and choot it.

got me one as my first AR, but it came blemished, gas block scraped pretty good and the handle loose so i couldnt select fire and safe or take it to test it and had to send it back not to mention the pivot and retaining pins were stuck i couldnt separate the top and lower.... made me lose interest really, but the floating rails seem awesome. i think i mind as well get the angled grip or horizontal from BCM and a optic or iron sight or something. IVe seen the radical as well and since have learned so much more about AR15s. PSA has a ghost gun lower that interested me in starting a build, but id have to pay for shipping for every single item which would run the cost up more than expected. so i think im gonna buy some ammo and a scope Any advice in that area would be appreciated, please no 1k$ suggestions. iron sights perhaps

The Radical Firearms has been the nicer budget firearm lately, a lot closer to the fit and finish of my BCM’s than my PSA’s and Stag. Stag really isn’t a budget oriented brand but I think RF is about the same quality, accept for the Stags having a chrome lined barrel.

Here is a link to a very good deal on a 1-4 Tacticon LPVO entry level scope with a lifetime warranty, currently at 50% off w/coupon code "prime50". Your total cost will come to $99.98 shipped. This scope has over 320 reviews on Amazon and comes from a Vet owned company you can trust. I've bought several of their red dots, and plan to buy another one while they are on sell. This is a deal that should work well for you. https://tacticon.com/product/falcon-v2-1-4x24-lpvo-scope/...

Don’t listen to this guy. This guys has argued with me that FFP is useless on variable optics at distances and thinks that SFP rules them all. Lack of experience shows in his comments.

Are you a salesman for this company? The only reason I ask is the way you put your words together in your comments, they just seem kind of like a salesman trying to sell something, I could be wrong, I don’t see anything visibly wrong with the scope in the link, it’s not waterproof or water resistant or shockproof, it says shock resistant (i’m a little skeptical) but if you’re plinking then it’ll do, i’ve never heard of the company and my concerns might not be yours so don’t let my opinion sway yours, it’ll probably do just fine.

No, I'm not and have never been a salesman, but I did dedicate 24 years of my life in the service of our country 1967-1991 (Vietnam thru Desert Storm). I try to compose my comments to be brief, factual, informative, and hopefully helpful. I also try to provide links to give readers fast access to additional information. LWRC, I feel like your question was intended to be somewhat disrespectful, and I highly recommend you don't go there in the future. My response will not be as nice and measured as this one. Have a nice weekend.

It was meant to be disrespectful I thought you were salesman for the company or store and for that I am sorry, 24 years is a long time serve the government, The Vietnam war was a terrible war and the soldiers were treated horribly when they came home,(that makes me mad as hell) I thank you for your service, if you don’t mind me asking what branch were you in and what was your MOS.in the Armed Forces.

For scopes I would probably go with Sig Sauer tango selection not the military the ones, cause those are like two grand, go with the tango4 selection,(tactical) Second scope Company I would probably go with Vortex they’ve got hundreds of options in scopes and reticles, I wouldn’t suggest any one in particular you’ll have to find what’s best for you and what you’ll be doing with it but they’re all good and have lifetime warranties, as for the sights I would go with Magpul MBUS pop-up ones, they’re not very expensive but they’re really durable, but if I might add a suggestion if you’re planning on using this for defense and not plinking I would probably go with a red dot instead of a scope, especially since you’re new to this, a LPVO (Low power variable optic) or scope takes a little bit more “now how” to use than the red dot, and I don’t think you wanna be learning how to use an LPVO in a defense situation, and the battery run dead quicker most of the time, now if you’re just plinking it doesn’t matter you can get a scope or red dot and it doesn’t matter, for the red dot selection I would get a shake awake red dot, they sleep while they’re still and they turn on immediately when you move it and you can leave it on all the time and never turn it off, it’s always there when you need it, and the batteries last years, I would go with a Sig Sauer Romeo5 I’ve personally had those and they are good they have a shake awake feature you can change the brightness with push buttons, they are waterproof shockproof and fog proof also and they only cost between $100 and $120 and the batteries last 3 to 5 years And they can last 10 if you use the shake awake feature, or if you wanna upgrade you can go with a sigsauer Romeo4s like the British SAS uses and there around $300 to $400 and they have multiple red dot reticle options, another personal favorite of mine is the EOTech holographic sight they run around $500 to $700 they have a wide field of View but they have a shorter battery life of around 500 to 600 hours and no shake awake They have a great reticle though, US military uses them extensively, and there are hundreds of great options for red dots out there if not thousands I just listed a few, here are some other companies you can look at Trijicon.com, Vortex.com, Crimsontrace.com, Burris.com, Leopold.com, Aimpoint.com, primaryarms.com, Sigsauer.com, EOTech.com, there are more but that’s what I can think of at the moment, I don’t know if I helped you at all I hope I did a little bit, and another thing if you want more magnification on your red dots and the ease of use get a Magnifier they flip to the side when not in use and get a QD (quick detach) mount so you can take it off and put it right back on when you want, I hope you get sorted out.

This has been a great cliff notes man I love it!! I’ve got a northtrac red dot but it’s so blurry when not a red dot it’s a last resort. Not to mention it was like 15$ impulse purchase. Can’t wait to see the difference with a more expensive setup.

The detachable flip magnifying Romeo and Juliet sets is what I plan to invest in or similar. (Shake awake seems like the best feature to have )

And then maybe a Rossi 22Lr with a long scope so I can train my son as well.

But thank you man I appreciate the help!

7/28/2022 - If you're looking for an AR in this price range I'd go for this Radical Firearms AR for less than $5 more.
https://thecastlearms.com/product/rad-rad-15-rpr-5.56-16b-30r...
15" Free Float Handguard, Mid-length gas system, MFT Furniture ..... all contribute to make it well worth the minuscule difference in price, IMO

The firearm you mention is actually $50 more total than this KY/Andersen - as Castle charges shipping and tax; however probably worth the $50 extra

Thanks for pointing that out, gerick75. I admittedly slipped-up by not factoring-in shipping, tax and CC fees, which can indeed be substantial. Considering those fees the Radical is $38 higher for me. Not a "minuscule difference" as I stated before (my bad) but still worth it in my view. I like Mr GNG on YT. He's one of my favorites. I've been subbed to his channel for years. I hope you're having a great weekend.

I was in the market after seeing the radical firearms build you have listed. The furniture on that system is far superior - if you wanted to add the same here your looking at around 150 -170 dollars as this just has a2 stock and grip and a 20-dollar BCM heat shield. After a lot of research, the Anderson Manufacturing AR seems to be a better-made gun than the radical. Radical seems to have a lot of quality control issues (including poor quality BCG and issues with the gas tube system). Anderson aero and PSA seem to be a bit better in the budget area and Anderson lowers are very commonly used for builds. If Radical can make the "same" gun and include 150+ worth of furniture makes you question quality difference even in these cheap guns. Just my thoughts.

the biggest diff is probably the barrel.. Anderson uses 4150 steel for their barrels and the radical although having better furniture has a 4140 barrel. not as good.

2 votes
0 votes

4140 is 0.4% carbon - 4150 is 0.5% carbon - that difference to my style of shooting is negligible. If I was in a barrel meltdown competition to see who's barrel lasted the longest I'd choose to use a 4150 barrel over a 4140 barrel because it should survive a bit longer. But I'm not into that. I don't own a full-auto and I don't do shitloads of back-to-back mag dumps. 4140 meets my style and needs just fine.

When Radical first started, years ago, I read about those problems you speak of. I think they addressed and remedied the problems. It's been quite-a-while since I've heard of any common or persistent problems with their firearms. Their firearms come with a non-transferable lifetime warranty. The reports I've read regarding their customer service are positive. That's my 2¢. :)

Why is this so cheap?

Some combination of a polymer upper receiver, an Anderson lower receiver, and no Pittman-Robertson tax on components (which this is being sold as) would be my guess. I could be wrong, though.

AFAIK, Anderson doesn't make AM-15 polymer upper receivers.

You're right; they don't. Neither does BCM, or at least neither one has them catalogued on-line. Guess that's what I get for posting when I'm nodding off from fatigue.

I understand :) The BCM handguard that comes on the complete upper assembly is polymer.
