In the early 1960s, the Romanian Army used mostly PPSh-41, Oriţa submachine guns and imported AK-47 rifles. With the development of the stamped Type 4 AKM receiver, and the Soviet Union's call to each of the Warsaw Pact's nations to produce their own assault rifles chambered in 7.62mm, be they AK-47 pattern or not, the Romanian State Arsenal developed an AKM clone featuring a forward-pointing front handgrip molded into the lower handguard, called the Pistol Mitralieră model 1963.

I just don't like the engraved snake on the receiver.

I'm assuming these are "battlefield pick up" clones, simply made with used and surplus parts to appear as such?

Well I once ordered a matching parts kit that was very worn and beat up. I didn't expect it to be in that condition. That was a real battle field pick up.

Some kits come with like new parts that are put together and painted then purposely beat up to make them look battle worn. Depends on who put the kit together.
I think these romys really come worn and beat up from actual battle use. Only the receiver and barrel are new.
