This was supposed to reply to SBCNS. You can select different options. A $20 upgrade gets you a midlength .223 Wylde pencil barrel in most set ups. 4150 CMV. There are midlength stainless options as well. Check it out, most uppers listed have a select barrel option when checking out. I did the custom build. Got the barrel described above, mid length gas, 15” free float, a failzero NiB BCG and extended release charging handle for about $500 total. Can’t wait to get it.
It's .223 Wylde which will shoot either 223 or 5.56.

I bought two of these Spectre uppers the night before the election. Paid the extra $20 for the mid-length, pencil barrels. They arrived way quicker than the 15-day message they make you acknowledge. Mine were at my front door in about 4 days. I have two FN barrel PSA's as reference. Swapped onto my PSA lowers and tossed the PSA bcg and ch into them, and they threw led without a hiccup with similar accuracy. Full disclosure, one of the gas blocks had a pencil eraser size area of surface rust I rubbed out and dyed. One of the free float rails was ever so slightly out of alignment. Maybe 1/32 or so. Doesn't really bother me, and I'm not going to bother trying to realign it but, if you have OCD... For what it's worth, they answered my email the Sunday night before I bought them almost immediately. I supposed they would have taken care of these issues had I bothered. Bottom line: I'd buy again without hesitation.
I have an 18" and a 16" upper from Mid State. Very happy with shipping and quality. Don't hesitate, you will not be disappointed.
Assuming the barrel is at least normal quality, this is a great value especially with that handguard and being assembled
All upvotes must have come before the panic. Current price $420 as is. Not a deal by any stretch.
