I was at the checkout screen with 3 in the cart when I went back and read all of the Q&A topics saying you need a license to operate this.....is this true for just a two way radio or only if you download the software and unlock all the HAM frequencies? I know ZIP about amateur radio but have the need for a few good walkie talkies plus like the fact I could listen if crap hit the fan to civilian broadcasts.
Can't comment on the deal, because this is a "Catch-22" situation: the price is good, but the product is illegal as sold for most U.S. users: read the Amazon Q&A section in the product details carefully b4 you plunk down your hard-earned FRNs on this! Would I get one for a TEOTAWKI bug-out kit? Seems reasonable when the FCC isn't going to be breathing down your neck, but for day2day use, it doesn't make sense.
