Description

Barnaul is one of Russia’s largest commercial and military ammunition manufacturers, with roots that go all the way back to the 1800s. They make plenty of American cartridges, but we’d be willing to bet they’ve made more 7.62x39 ammo than anything else. The AK-47 is the world’s most popular rifle, after all.
Russian ammo is nearly always less expensive than other countries’, and that is primarily because manufacturers like Barnaul only use copper to coat the exterior of their bullets. This 7.62x39 round’s 123 grain FMJ projectile’s bi-metal jacket is mostly made out of steel. It’s softer than the steel that your rifle’s barrel is made out of, though it is hard enough to prevent deformation that could harm accuracy. It’s also magnetic, making this ammo unsuitable for use at many ranges.
Barnaul’s cases are made of steel instead of brass. Reloading steel cases is so time consuming that you should really only consider trying it during a doomsday scenario. Steel cases also can’t seal the chamber as perfectly as brass ones, which leads to accelerated fouling. But if you can do without handloading and don’t mind cleaning your rifle, you’ll appreciate the savings steel cases represent. These rounds’ cases are copper washed for smoother feeding and extraction, and their Berdan primers are 100 percent non-corrosive.

Crazy that imported ammo is inflated as well. We could have 1000 shipping containers come in and these vendors would still charge 15 cents more than normal price even though its not part of the same ammo shortage in the US. Granted there is more demand and maybe with Covid there were less shipments but to have seen steel case at brass inflated prices is nuts. Just an excuse for more money to be made.

I just got in 500 of these new bi-metal cased ammo. Exact same accuracy as Barnaul 123 standard. and Wolf 123 (made by Barnaul) For some reason this ammo shot better than any other in my WASR but in my NICE AK and my VZ.58 it was indistinguishable from Barnaul / wolf 123. Getting 2 moa at 100 yards. 3 moa with WASR. This ammo would be best for an AR because there is no coating.
