Concerning PSA's shipping quotes, I had a high automated estimate recently and really wanted to place the order. I called them up and the guy said to place my order and he would calculate the correct shipping charge and refund the difference. Occasionally the weight entered into the online store database isn't correct and it throws shipping quotes off, but my refund was on my card statement online the same day. I placed another order with PSA yesterday and just sent an email reply to the email receipt to have them double check the shipping charge. Even so, PSA has had both good prices and good customer service for me.

I just went back to SGAmmo website and looked at the order I referenced. Arrived in 4 boxes. 168 pounds. $82 shipping. So as you're explaining, the shipping on 250-270 lbs of 50 BMG would be ROUGHLY in the same ballpark when comparing apples to apples. All I was suggesting was that shipping rates TEND to increase at a slower rate as the weight increases; and it appears that this sale is for $2/round regardless, suggesting that seller is using slightly fabricated/exaggerated shipping charges to make the sale price appear more attractive. Really not a big deal, and not an uncommon practice.
In furtherance of this being a good deal....Lucky Gunner wants $212 shipping. SGAmmo wants $110 and when they have sales, shipping doesn't change. But right now, you're right-- this is definitely the overall bargain on 50.

As an aside, I'm curious how old would you consider too old to buy bulk 50BMG for possible long term storage? These have an LC08 head stamp.

1000 rounds of this ammo weighs approx. 300 lbs with packing . Cost is not out of line.

They want $188 to ground ship a 1000-round case. First, the ammo is a decent price, and it's almost exactly $2/round including shipping whether you order 10, 100 or 1000. Even though I like and buy from PSA semi-regularly, being familiar with SGAMMO's shipping for an equivalent "weight" of ammo--which would be about $30-40 bucks--just ruins the deal for me personally. I bought $2700 of ammo from SGAmmo last month.....it required 4 boxes.....the weight was like 75 pounds..... And shipping was less than $90. Just sayin, as we all know, these sellers can screw the pooch by offering a decent deal then boofing the customer with crazy shipping rates.
