Ordered Tuesday night, got it on Friday. Shipping link went to UPS but was USPS tracking #. Put the # in USPS site and tracked fine. Haven't tried it yet but no visible issues.
I REALLY wish these were threaded...I'd be in for 3 if they were.
Ordered Sunday 5/3 received yesterday 5/6.
I ordered Sunday 5/3 as well... still waiting...
Bud's has not done a good job on shipping these promptly for me. I ordered 4 uppers total, 2 orders of 2, on 5/2/15. I received tracking numbers via email suggesting that my items shipped on 5/5/15. Much like the PSA shipping model, the tracking data has not populated in the UPS tracking system because Bud's has not actually shipped the uppers. Sending me tracking numbers and actually shipping my orders are two very different things. These may be a good buy, but they will likely not be shipped promptly. My bet is about a 10-12 day delay from payment to receipt. Since we are only about 100 miles apart, I could crawl to get them more quickly.
I stand corrected. Bud's sent tracking information and a link that went to UPS. In reality, they shipped USPS, so the link was obviously bad. The uppers arrived today and they seem fine. In 15 inutes, I switched one to a metal receiver and a 10" free floating quad rail. It test-fired fine with standard bulk .22 ammo. It is much nicer as an "all-metal" upper.
Did you use a standard stripped AR-15 upper?
Yes. I used Anderson slick side uppers as there is no provision on the bolt for forward assist. I prepared 4 that way and all 4 work well. I only used the barrel, bolt, charging handle, and fake muzzle device from the upper. I scrapped the plastic upper, handguards, sight tower, end cap, and barrel nut/delta ring assembly.
I wonder how this will do with my bumpfire stock.
with a 3lb trigger it might be fine. I suspect with a 4.5-5 lb milspec trigger, it will not run reliably. YMMV
Fix the title. Title says $139 shipped (free shipping)
As other ppl said, shipping is not free. It is $9 for GA
so $148 shipped.
Unfortunately, it reads "Free S/H on Firearms" and this is not a firearm. I was pretty mad as well for being mislead but $150 shipped with two mags is still a great price even though $139 would have been better.
We need to continue policing these post as bad information hurts us all.
will the bolt that comes with this work as a drop-in replacement for a standard 556 upper/barrel a-la a cmmg drop-in 22 bolt? or will this bolt only work with this upper/barrel?
This is not a drop in replacement bolt. You'll need the 22lr chamber and that's part of the barrel on the Chiappa.
Forgive the stupid question, but I'm considering building my first AR on a budget, and wouldn't mind starting on .22's to get comfortable with the platform.
Can someone tell me if this can be added to any "complete lower" to have a "complete" AR? Is that all it takes? A complete lower and a complete upper that you fit together (provided both are mil-spec, from what I've read)?
Seems like that route would be a lot easier than trying to piece together every little component for my first AR when I have no idea what I'm doing with it yet.
Thanks
Insert 2 take down pins, do a few functional checks, and you should be good to go. I would assume (yes, I know what that means) if a different buffer is required, it will probably come with the upper.
If you're not comfortable with AR assembly / dis-assembly, Brownells has some video's that can be quite helpful, and there are several step by step books available at very reasonable prices. I would also recommend staying away from many of the "backyard builders" found on you tube. Some of the practices I've seen them use are, in my opinion, not very good and occasionally (in my opinion again) can be borderline dangerous if you're not sure of what you're doing or what to look for to begin with.
If you ever do decide to build an AR from scratch there are a handful of tools that are pretty much essential, such as a good vice, torque wrench, vice block/action block set, a good armorers wrench/tool (stay away from the cheapies, they have a tendency to bend, twist, break) and a headspace gauge. I would also recommend buying or borrowing an armorers punch set. Do not use nail or carpenter finishing punches. They will mushroom the end of the roll pin and have a tendency to jump off the roll pin when struck. If this happens, they will scratch the heck out of your upper / lower.
IS the barrel threaded?
Can anyone that has bought this tell me if the barrel is threaded? if so, do you know what the threads are, ie 1/2 28 or some metric thread.
I would like to use my Form1 can on it if it is.
Thanks
No threads. The 'flash hider' is attached via set screw. I read somewhere that the barrel is the right diameter for threads. I can't verify because my set screw is so tight that I just twist and snap Allen wrenches.
Thank you for your help.
Too bad, though, would have been nice. I
So at this price with one of those PSA blemished complete lowers around $130, price is right in line for what the S&W M&P 15-22's were a couple months back. Who's owned both and chosen one over the other? Interchangeable uppers don't matter to me.
can you just take the bolt and mag from this chiappa and use them with any ar15 223 upper/barrel/lower? or does the bolt for this chiappa only work with the upper/barrel it comes with?
i also jumped for combat armory.. didnt see the drop coming..
So these are hit-and-miss? I've read some horror stories, as well as some positive ones. Worth a try at $150 with 2 mags.
Bummer - they do not have the 10rd upper for sale, so they cancelled my CA order. That sucks...silly Kalifornia...
The lack of water has affected their better judgment on all things.
Cali, the Combat Armory deal reposted today swaps the 28 for the 10rnd if you're in Cali (if I remember correctly) 169 FS 1 mag. (So about 20 bucks more)
Misleading add - NOT free shipping on this item! Buds charged me $11 to ship insured!
Misread add...This is a part, not a firearm.
Word! Still a great deal if your upper is issue free.
To point out, after shipping it's about 20 bucks cheaper than CAs deal and comes with another mag. But then again I hear a lot of good stuff about CA and I'm betting customer service could be important when dealing with poly uppers lol
Poo bought this for 30 more just the other day.
Got one about three months ago. Shot about 800 rounds through it. Not a single malfunction and very accurate. Yeah it's got some plastic on it and fake flash hider, so what. Mine works great and a hell of a lot of fun.
So you're saying you agree with everything below right?
Nope I sure don't. You called it a turd twice. I don't agree with that. Maybe yours was but mine is not. Works great. Would buy it again in a heartbeat. It is what it is, just fun, cheap and reliable to shoot. No more, no less.
In regards to materials/build quality, turd is being nice.... And you should consider yourself lucky when it comes to functionality. A quick Google search will validate that.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this turd.
It's no turd, its a plastic upper... with a fake flash hider that's held with a screw & dimple, not threaded how you might've wanted for a can, with a chrging handle that might break if you look at it wrong; but, if you want one at a discount, I have one in the safe, which might sell for an attractive price...
I own this upper - it is great. So far the only failures I've had have been ammo related. Easy to clean. My only gripe - its a polymer upper. I've read of people swapping that out, but whatever - not worth the money IMO. Just have fun plinking as is.
