Description

The PPK/S blends the cool iconic design of the PPK with the sporty features of a longer grip and greater magazine capacity. Elegant lines, precision engineering, and world-class reputation make this version of the classic PPK a stylish addition to the Walther family. The PPK/S has a single or double action trigger system with a 6.6 pound pull in single action mode. The top strap is cut with a wave to reduce glare and rear slide serrations provide classic Walther styling in addition to a nonslip grip. The manual safety on the PPK/S engages the firing pin block, providing safe, confident handling. The beavertail grip extension improves shooting comfort and the internal slide-stop reduces external snags. Checkered synthetic grips. Fixed steel sights. One flush-fit 6-round magazine and one 7-round magazine with finger rest included.

Overpriced, inferior caliber. Buy a 9mm S&W Shield and save save yourself $400.

I never understood what makes this pistol so expensive and valuable? walther makes so many copies and inexpensive firearms and theres this?

Look at one of the new ones. Not a single tool mark inside or out. Barrel feed ramp is now blended with the frame and polished. And it’s an all steel gun and it’s beautiful. Why are Glocks $600? They cost less than $200 to make.

So they should sell it for cost? Then the wholesaler should sell it for cost? Then the retailer should sell it for cost? So everyone works for free? That isn't how the world works.

Uh...no. People are willing to pay a premium for high quality guns with good reputations. Glocks are the perfect example. They can afford to sell them at a profit for $299 but the know they can get $600 out of them and people will happily pay it.

People happily pay $600+ for a Walther PPK for the quality, history, nostalgia, Bond, and brand even though it’s functionally identical to lots of other cheaper guns.

Hold on...it doesn't work like that. Glock may sell it to the WHOLESALER for $300. They in turn sell it to a reseller for $400. THEY sell it to you for $550-$600. Most other products in the world are sold the same way. General Mills makes a box of cereal for $.072. They sell it to a wholesaler like Associated Wholesale Grocers for $1.65. They sell it to the individual stores for $2.55. The store sells it to you for $3.95.
As far as what gun you buy, most people get what they need. They won't put $2200 into an expensive 1911 when they can spend $400 on a Springfield XD. If you can't afford that, they may go with a Hi-Point. But most people would think putting $2200 into a 1911 would be foolish. Others would disagree. My Ruger LCP II was about $200. Works perfectly. I wouldn't pay $800 for a gun that does the exact same thing. Just like I wouldn't spend another $50K for a Hellcat for my wife when she just wants a Plain-Jane with a V6.

You obviously don’t understand how thin gun margins are at retail during normal times. Glock’s cost to produce a 19 gen 3 is $170 plus transport costs, so about $200 all in. They sell it to Lipsey’s for $450. Lipseys sells it to Cabelas for $480. Cabelas retails it for $529. Cabelas doesn’t even make a profit on new guns they sell under $400.

People buy expensive things that are functionally identical on a basic form to less expensive things because they like the more expensive item more and are willing to pay more.

PPK does exactly the same function of a gun as a $200 Ruger LCP. Reliable 6+1 .380 with tiny sights. PPK has features that are worth $4-500 more to some people and that’s why they are constantly sold out and sold at MSRP.

You obviously don’t understand that even if your figures are correct, $200 is the break-even point. And you are forgetting about the many extra costs involved in a gun manufacturing business. Lawyers fees, post-sale repairs, advertising....it goes on ad on. As for your figues, I will just have to take your word on them. I was once told by a Walmart employee that Walmart sells guns at cost ( which is the same thing you are telling me about Cabela's <$400 guns). Which doesn't make much sense especially having to pay for someone to sell them, store space to store and showcase them, people to receive and stock them, and time wasted for BG checks. Cabela's will always profit from ammo and accessories even if they didn't sell a single gun.

Why would you sell something at cost. Thats BS. Were here to turn a profit.

I understand completely because I used to buy guns for Cabelas. Glock has the highest profit margins in the industry. They could sell their guns to Lipsey’s at $300 and still make a better profit than any other gun maker and price every other pistol out of the market. They don’t because people are willing to pay more and they want to maximize profit per unit. There’s a reason why they can afford a fleet of private jets.

Sub $400 guns are not profitable to sell, but are done as a service to get people in the door to sell store brand accessories and credit cards that are profitable.
