No offense and an honest question...Why in the hell would you pay this much for a piece of aluminum? I bought one for $24. and am thinking about getting another for my other AR. Just wondering why this is so special? Thanks for any info

I have no idea either man. I wish I could have bought the $24 one, but I have to have a 12 inch one (rifle length). Had to pay about $80 for it (UTG Pro on Amazon), but very happy with it...

WOW....ummm, where to start. First off the $24 rails are drop in, and are complete and total garbage. (I actually tried one on a budget build and ended up throwing it in the garbage).

So, a good rail is does a few things, first it's lighter, second it's a rigid platform for optics, designators, and front sights. They also float the barrel like most competition rifles by eliminating the contact between your support hand and the barrel. Not only does this make the rifle more accurate, but more consistent. A good rail also gives you a 100% continuous upper rail. They also allow for easier assembly and disassembly if needed for repair, reconfig, or barrel changes as you do not need to unpin an A2 sight post(in some cases) or deal with a Delta ring and barrel nut. Then you have the option of using them with piston systems as well. They also give you a further forward support position for support for accurate shooting, competition shooting etc.

The big thing here, is application. If you want a solid platform for accessories you will not want a $24 drop in......which is made with softer materiel, and never has a level 3 hardcoat. Often times the cheap rails are also out of spec \.

Handguards and rails are two different things......buying a $300 rail isn't the right replacement for your plastic handguards.

Thanks for the detailed response. Learned some things today. WIth my AR configuration I won't be swapping parts, testing barrels, or and my life won't be dependent on the accuracy of the sights that I install on it. Works for some but I guess an expensive front rail is not for me.

There are differences between a 200$ free float rail and ones that is cheaper for under 100$, also you are paying to replace the delta ring and a nice clean look... Thou there are cheaper free float rails.... Free floats don't effect your barrel during recoil, so you will get tighter groupings. Yankee Hill are some cheaper good rails if you going to get a rail. Also on a mid barrel, least get a 9.7 free float so it covers your gas block. IMO

Great rail, and I see them go for $315 regularly.....I'd jump on this if I needed a rail.....excellent quality, and better than the Daniel Defense IMO .

I love this rail system, I have the same one on my Centurion Arms barrel.
