Follow up: My 13 year old son loves the SA-08 that I picked up. We shoot clays (trap) a couple of times a month. He had been using my 20g Franchi AL80 until I got the Weatherby. He’s switched to the Weatherby and is breaking more pigeons (using the modified choke). I haven’t patterned them all yet. If I do I’ll post the results.
One thing to note. This shotgun, not unlike other autoloaders does require breaking in. During the first 100 rounds we shot lighter loads than recommended and had ~5 instances where the action didn’t completely cycle. Somewhere around the 200 round mark the failures to cycle completely went away (still using the light loads).
I’m very pleased with this shotgun thus far and so is my son.
Anyone had experience with this gun recently? I checked reviews but most were at least 2-3 years old. I ordered one because it was cheaper than any off brand autoloader and I believe it will be perfect for those of smaller stature. I’ll post my thoughts once it comes in.
Also I really think they made a pricing mistake because the next day it was on their weekly sale for $499...
