Description

Ruger Gunsite Scout SS 223 6825 - Ruger's Gunsite Scout Rifle is developed with Gunsite, and is "Gunsite Approved" and features the Gunsite name rollmarked on the receiver. It has a forward-mounted Picatinny rail which allows for the mounting of modern optics and a built-in, accurate sighting system with ghost ring adjustable rear aperture sight and a non-glare, blade front sight. Patented integral scope mounts, are machined directly on the solid-steel receiver which provides a stable mounting surface. The non-rotating, Mauser-type controlled round feed extractor features a fixed blade-type ejector that positively ejects the empty cases as the bolt is moved fully rearward. The Gunsite Scout Rifle also has a free-floated, cold hammer-forged barrel with ultra-precise rifling, three-position safety, sling swivel studs, detachable box magazine with push-forward magazine release, and a soft rubber buttpad with buttpad spacers. Included are scope rings and three .5" spacers. This model has a 16.1" stainless steel barrel, black laminate stock, and Gunsite engraved on the grip cap.

Was looking for a .223/5.56 bolt-action rifle, but with spare magazines locked in on the market at $70, I'll take a hard pass and look for a good deal on the Ruger American Ranch with AR mags...

EDIT: Looked hard at the RARR and available aftermarket stock options. Boyd's appears to be the only option, but no guarantee that it would work with the AR mag variant. Ended up finding the polymer mags for the Ruger Gunsite Scout at about $23/each, so the cost is pretty negligible between decking out the RARR and going this route - plus, you end up with iron sights already installed.

Doesn't look like anyone out there is also shopping for something like this. An update for anyone looking at this later, though. I received my RGS about a week back. Shipping from this vendor was super fast. Everything arrived in good shape. Did a thorough cleaning, set up my scope with the included rings and removed the pic rail. Spent a range session getting a feel for the bolt and zeroing my optics. She's a fine little rifle, this one. Picked up two additional polymer mags and they are WAY lighter and smaller than the metal mag - though they aren't as robust.

I also heard back from Boyd's on the AR mag question - none of their stocks are configured to work with the AR type mags. Looks like I made a good call.
