As others have said, this isn't monolithic- I think someone needs to hit the dictionary to understand what it means. This is just a matched upper and handguard, with the ability to make sure the two separate pieces (!monolithic) are lined up. The downside to this means a custom barrel nut, non-milspec compatibility and a harder time with any maintenance.

For the money (which others have pointed out isn't cheap), I'd go with one of the Aero sets (which has the same limitations, but a better known brand)

The pictures make it look like it's very similar to the aero bar barrel nut which requires you to index the nut, usually with shims, to line up the holes, which winds up being trial and error to get it all lined up perfectly.
Can anyone confirm/deny?

No experience with the Aero barrel nut, but I can confirm the shims are to align the holes in the barrel nut with those in the handguard. This is necessary due to the handguard interlocking with the receiver at the 12 o'clock. There is no timing of the nut for gas tube pass through necessary. Given the barrel nut can be tightened with an adjustable wrench (if you don't care about torque settings) it wasn't that difficult to shim the nut to get the handguard holes to line up. I found it to be a functional receiver/handguard, particularly for pistol caliber barrels. But even at $139 (the $149 price currently on Brownell's - $10, not sure how they got $136) its overpriced for what it is. Bring it down another $20-$30 its good to go.

It's more about the profile of the upper and handguard match. Super slim. Have a 9mm upper and a 300 blackout pistol built with FM Mike's parts. I love the look.

I purchased one a few months back, but returned it because the rail measured 8.75". It didn't work with my 8.5" barrel build unless I used something like a flash can.

what a bait and switch description. This is NOT monolithic. It appears, from the pictures to be a regular upper with a hand guard combo.

Price isn't horrible, but man the description just kills it for me. Makes me question the quality of materials.

I have several Aero M4E1 Enhanced uppers. Again, while not a true monolithic; it's about as close as you can get for "affordable" prices IMO. If you get on sale etc...... Just my 2 cents ;p!!!!!

I watched the product video on Brownells website and one of the first things the guy says is that it is "not quite a true monolithic" set up...and that's how they "bring it to you at a fraction of the price".

I don't think they are trying to be deceptive but I do think they should take monolithic out of the product title.

What is monolithic about these?

If they're lightweight, why isn't the weight listed?

Hmmmm

Although not a true monolithic (one piece), the handguard and receiver interlock at 12 o' clock. Sort of a better solution of a non rotational tab type feature.

Not sure of the weight, but it's probably called such because of the lack of a forward assist.
