Your first rifle should be a 22lr one. Grab a Savage 64F for less than $115 (before transfer).
As a second rifle though this a great pick. Over the other big picks for a cheap AR, Ruger and S&W, this has a mid-length gas system (less recoil, higher lifespan) and freefloated (huge accuracy improvement, especially in barricade shooting) which are both big steps up. The only things I'd ask for are a better trigger, better furniture (those two are easy additions latter on and easy to do) and a pencil barrel (not so much). Well it could have full auto, but lack of that is purely Wayne LaPierre/the NRA's fault and not a problem with this kit.
If this is your first or last rifle it won't matter. Depends on the budget you have to work with and your knowledge of piecing together a rifle with a lot of moving parts.
