I own a star 9mm and found it to be quite reliable. Never had any issues with the 500 to 700 rounds I've put thru it. I usually shoot cheap, target ammo as well. I keep it clean and well lubed and it's always shot just fine. They're heavy and built like an old tank.

I have 3 of them, never a problem, very solid, very accurate. Don't dry fire, firing pins very hard to find!

Just received one of these from G4Gusa for $221 shipped for a "V" grade, with 1 mag. Arrived at my FFL 4 business days after ordered. It's much better than I expected, with no rust anywhere and little wear. The original cardboard box came with it, along with a cleaning rod and service book (in Spanish). The book also had a typed paper signed by the police officer who received it at Academia De Guardias, dated 1988. The only knock I can find with this one (dated 1978 on the trigger guard) is it must have had a drop that slightly flattened the right side of the front sight. The slide wouldn't lock open until I cleaned it, but now it functions. I can't wait to get this to the range, I expect this will see more use than the P64. If you order one, I think getting "V" rather than "G" is worth it. G4G has a flat $15 shipping fee.

Ive seen pictures of the ones people bought and uploaded. They all look decent and I really like the pictures of what can be done to these guns with new grips and different color finishes. There's a black and light grey one that looks really nice.

If you can buy a Ruger 9mm for $240 or a Remington for $190 why on earth would you buy this for $225? Not everything old has historical value or is a "collectable." Based on the new market you should be able to buy 2 at this price....IMO.

Where can I find that one for 190

Which Ruger 9mm can you buy for $240 and where?

Those interested or on the fence- I will try to put objective info out to help make a decision.
There's an internet complaint about Spanish "soft steel"- this goes back to the Ruby pistols produced for WW1, by several dozen different Spanish makers. Some of those are very poor quality. That has nothing to do with Star or Astra, as these brands are the equal to any other good name brand, sometimes superior. Complaining generically about soft Spanish steel is like saying Japanese cars are junk, a myth dispelled long ago.

I own another Star, a Super B, and like that, the BM I received is very slick and smooth in side action, with minimal recoil (especially for the size). This is a solid and well-made gun, that were it in current production, I would imagine would compete alongside Beretta, CZ and Sig for metal-framed guns, both in quality and price.

Star is gone, so no manufacturer warranty, and parts can be scarce. That said, I'm beginning to see more parts available, and since this was a large shipment, there might be more parts coming along with this.

A major note- due to design, the firing pin is brittle, and dry-firing without a snap-cap is a BIG no-no with these.

Got mine from gunprodeals.com, I think that's the best deal, there or AIM.
Gunprodeals has it $225 + $12 shipped, and I received 2 magazines. Came in green cardboard box, with manual and cleaning rod.
AIM has them $199, $19 for additional magazine. Not sure about the shipping from them, and I think the mags have sold out.

It's funny to read such ignorant comments as "Commie junk" on this. Spain is not communist, never went that way. They did go Fascist in the 30's and stay that way awhile, but not relevant to this particular pistol anyway- the BM was made in the 70's to 90's. Spain is NATO, has been since 82.

This pistol was issued to the Guardia Civil starting in 72, and was bought back by Star when they swapped over to the Star 30M. From what I have read, they have since swapped to the Beretta 92FS. From what poeple belonging to that agency said, the Star BM was intended to shoot a hot 9mm load, near the top end of the NATO spec.
From what I understand, Star factory refurbished the BMs after buying them back. Mine, received a couple days ago, has definitely been done so, as the bluing is like new.
All the different sites selling these, they came from the same big shipment. You probably should shop around to find the best deal, because they would all be factory restored, and biggest difference (outside of hand select) is just... profit for the seller.

Fine then, I'll give you 125. Lol. Geez, these idiots act like it's Facebook. "$100 bill, $50 firm" and then some jackass offers $25 "cash money".

Bought mine from a private seller and I think I over paid and the gun would jam every three shots but I learned that I knew little about hand guns. Maybe I can get one here and give it another go with Star.

I received my pistol a few days ago. Pistol is MINT!! Very surprised. Took a few days to ship but other than that I couldn’t be more pleased...

Thanks for the tip, joe98hd. I've been on the fence about picking up another but I may just make the leap again anyway. I'm a big fan of STAR pistols. Turn-ins that become available in really good condition are a bonus.

Let the roasting begin! Kinbers and colts. Only serious D bags say things like that.

I wouldn’t buy this gun because I have others I prefer but... Kimbers and colts?

Lol. Only a guy over 60 still thinks that way. Kimber... for the guy who shoots 1 inch groups at 25 yards but doesn’t mind the occasional malfunction..

COMMUNIST junk. Might be a fun toy for that price and in this case but I'll stick w my Kimbers and Colts if I need a real gun.

Communist? Spain is a democracy, my friend. I should add that it is a NATO member, too.

If you like an all-steel 9mm you can do a lot worse than a STAR. I have owned several over the years (and still do). The Model BM is a reliable, well-made pistol. J&G is offering the same model for $10 less plus shipping: http://www.jgsales.com/-p-85501.html...
