m590a1 also has a heavier walled barrel designed not to dent while banging against ship hatches. That heavy barrel makes it tougher but also heavier and slower pointing. However I don't know what barrel countour the non-A1 590 at gunbuyer has. You need slugs for vehicle engines and longer distance shots on personnel. I can hit pie plates with slugs out to 100 yards using just the front bead on my m590 but getting a "sight picture" without a rear sight of any kind is slow. I kind of use the grooves on top of the reciever but it's not fast and it's very difficult in low light. I would be able to get on target so much faster with ghost rings at 100 yards and probably extend my reliable range to 160 yards kneeling using ghost rings. Home defense may not involve 100 yard shots with slugs for you and if you're sure you won't need that go with the m590 because the ghost rings for slugs are the 500's only advantage.

Since the barrel is 20" with a correspondingly long mag tube why only 7+1? Why isn't it 8+1 like the m590? Also, why are the 18.5" barrel 500's only 6+1 while the m590 in that length takes 7+1?

Great advice to go to Dick's sporting goods, they honored this price for me. 100 bucks off plus no charge for shipping or FFL transfer ++r

I thought dicks was a no go. For their anti 2nd amendment stance

EXACTLY!!! I guess some people would rather support a company that doesn't support us.

You confuse "anti 2nd amendment" with an attempt at self regulation. Were the major movie studios / national theatre chains "anti free speech" they they adopted AND ENFORCED the movie ratings system in a successful 3 decade long program keeping the government out of the 'who should, watch what' game? Dick's raising the gun buying age to 21 is exactly the same as Carmike Cinemas not letting a 12 year old see Debbie Does Dallas 19.

Dicks pissed a whole lot of people off. Me? Not so much. I never was found of paying more to help big companies. I try to buy from my lgs, when possible

I also thought it had to be a brick and mortar store for price matching

It's pretty good.

Good deal. I've seen the 590A1 a couple times for a hundred or so more. The 500 is lighter, and has a polymer trigger assembley instead of the metal on the 590A1. The 500 is still a great shotgun.

I think it's a good price for this model.

I'll like it even better when it arrives at my FFL

I agree there are differences....I Just don't think the differences are superior. Cross bolt safety vs tang, and molded foreend to the action tube being the biggest "difference" but like I said......better.....I Don't see where better comes into play.

Dual action bars vs single action bar. Mav 88 is not drilled/tapped for optics. 500 is parkerized vs blued on the 88. Some say 88 parts are made outside the US. Not sure if I believe that though. Some 500s do not have the pinned fore end. Some of those differences are only present if you purchased your 88 at a specific time.

Those differences are well worth $100 to a lot of people.

With that being said, I have an 88. I also have a Benelli M4 though. I got the 88 as a present when I was 16. I am 38 now. The 88 still works just fine.

This is a really good deal. I would pick one up if I didn't already have a few shotties.

The ghost ring sites?

Many defense shotguns have ghost ring sights. My Benelli M4 and Supernova Tactical both have them.

I just don't see why this is even $1 better than a Maverick 88

The differences are listed in the product description. Also, you receive a warranty that is 10x longer than the 88.

You should probably research the differences then....because there are differences.
