I got mine for $375.00 and its a fun gun
Lol. “Shorty” with standard HD barrel length. Lets call it what it is, a shotgun minus the buttstock.
Has anyone actually handled or fired one of these?
There is a legal classification of "pistol-grip firearm" distinct from "shotgun" – in short, although this fires shotgun ammunition, since it is over 27" long, it is all fine and dandy with ATF without a stamp. See the detail from http://www.mossberg.com/defining-a-shotgun... :
"Pistol Grip Firearms (PGF), or “pistol grip only” firearms as they are sometimes called, are another category of non-shotgun “shotguns.” This category includes firearms that have a smooth barrel, are more than 26 inches in overall length, but don’t have a buttstock and therefore can’t be shotguns. They aren’t really handguns either. Instead, the ATF has created this middle-ground category for firearms that are long enough to be a shotgun but don’t have buttstocks."
A stock cannot be a requirement because Mosberg Cruiser has been in existence for decades.
Just been researching this particular gun, and I am reading it is being classified as a “shotgun” and not a firearm. However, I have not been able to confirm either way. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense because shotguns legally require stocks to be shotguns, but it could possibly be an imported gun and in order to import them, they would have to have a stock.
But be careful, if you do plan on doing some fun chopping and building, make damn sure it’s a firearm and not a shotgun.
And mounting a shotgun to an AR would create an NFA item, I don’t suggest it.
The foregrip is legal because this firearm is over 26 inches.
As these are different weapons from pump shotguns that you would normally see with the raptor grip, do not just assume you that you can chop the barrel to 14 inches and add a birds head. That may or may not be an NFA item, all depending on the OAL. As long as this firearm remains 26 inches and does not have a stock, it is still a firearm. Smartest choice would be a folding brace and chop the barrel back as far as possible, probably need to open up the gas port.
Don’t do that, say that, or even smile at that. You are talking about “creating” an NFA weapon. The ATF clarification letter describes their departments idea on “intent.” If the firearm from the beginning of production was meant to be a “firearm” or “other” then a 14” Barrel and birds head is legal. Not the other way around.
Probably be pretty easy to modify it to sit below the barrel on an AR....you know...if you were into that sort of thing.
“Your retarded”
We got an idiot here.
-uses inappropriate term that belittles the disabled
-while using above term manages to misspell "you're"
Its the perfect reply.
Put a birdhead pistol grip on this with a 14 barrel and you have a shorty auto loader.
With an 18" barrel why not put a stock on it?
Good point, but isnt the front grip slightly angled, thus not a vertical foregrip regardless. I dont know if I want to go to court arguing on the couple of degrees of angle, but there is an angle.
It would be because it’s 27” overall length. The vertical on a pistol isn’t allowed though.
i got one as well... gun pro deals i think... gun is ok. good ideas destroyed by crappy customer service and north east attitudes... i will expound:
called the "tech support line" for questions about when i (legally) shorten barrel to sub 18" after adding adding arm brace what size should barrel gas ports be. the "tech" who was probably an "assembler" proceeded to tell me that he couldnt answer "legal" questions, and that Short barrel (not)shotguns were banned in whatever state they are in. i said thats great, i didnt call asking for legal advice, we went around and around for a few minutes till we were both pissed and hung up. now the company offers just such a gun, sub 18" (14", i think, extended lil buffer thing out back).
my next unfavorable interactions occurred after i started to start teh barrel shortening process and needed the buffer tube adapter part. they make a "kit" which they claim they dont wanna break up. it includes 1 spring, 1 washer, the adapter part and buffer tube. they want $160. i read somewhere that someone on interwebz had luck with the company selling parts individually, (ie, minus the buffer tube) for cheaper. so i called, emailed etc, and the only way they can sell me $50 worth of parts($15 buffer tube, 50 cent spring, 50 cent washer, $34.50 buffer tube adapter) is to do it for $160 (plus shipping).
final icing on the cake, which of course is my fault, but it didnt occur to me at time of purchase, and it may not occur to you all, is that the gun ships iwth only 1 magazine. im late to the hate on guns for only shipping with 1 mag, but i agree with all the others that say its silly to sell a (future) paperweight with only 1 mag.
