Just like my twins Crickett .22's, this specific youth model from Rossi cannot be beat for price, functionality, and over all simple action and ease of use, all 1 handed operation if need be, is great for children 10 and above. Reason being 9 year olds and under will not be able to withstand the recoil (even for a .410) nor operate the safety and set the hammer (not enough grip strength)... First rifles were Keystone's, now Rossi's shotguns...

not entirely true, some 9 year olds maybe...
I got a 20ga win37 youth on my 6th birthday and didn't have any trouble with recoil or cocking the hammer and neither does the neighbors 7 year old daughter when she shoots my rossi.
like generations before me I believe in starting children's safety and shooting training as soon as they are mentally ready regardless of age or (within limits) size and strength. some are ready at 5 ish and some are never ready...

I have the SS 45LC/410 version rossi and love it! shot the hell outa it with hot 45 LC hunting loads. even used it for bambi when my back's bad enough that I shouldn't have been hunting at all...
